    Blow your wad comic nerds.....

Superman and Batman are to appear in the same film for the first time, it has been revealed, to the delight of many fans of the popular characters.

The surprise announcement was made by Zack Snyder, who directed the most recent Superman film Man of Steel.

But speaking at a comic convention in San Diego, California, Mr Snyder said the script was still being written.

Production is expected to begin next year and the film is scheduled for release in the summer of 2015.

Warner Bros confirmed that the two superheroes would team up for the first time.

British actor Henry Cavill - who starred in Man of Steel - will again play Superman.

However, an actor for the new Batman is yet to be cast.

"They're both alpha males," fan Benjamin Ha was quoted as saying by the Associated Press. He added that he expected fireworks in the new film.

For many comic book enthusiasts it is a dream come true in what promises to be the ultimate superhero adventure, the BBC's Peter Bowes in Los Angeles reports.

The enduring popularity of Superman and Batman has seen the latest films featuring the two characters earn revenues of more than $1bn (655m) between them.

I look forward to seeing how they try to make the superman / batman fight seem even remotely competitive.

Exactly, I don't get the premise behind it, how is a super being going to work with a mortal ninja?

I wouldn't worry, if anyone can fuck it up, Zack Synder can.

There's literally hundreds of comics with that story, so it's not such a challenge.

And Superman wins in just about all of them. Hence the "competitive" thing.

Have you seen batman returns part 2 it has a good idea of how superman and batman can go toe to toe as equals without using kryptonite

Edit: meant the dark knight returns part 2

After Man of Steel, my EXCITEMENT levels is an astounding zero.

... all Superman has to do is use his eye laser-beamy thingie and Batman shall instantly die.

    The end.

    Are they not "teaming" up?

Give yourself 5 or gig, you're worth it.

Yes, it was a great fight, but with an extremely weakened and exceptionally stupid Superman, fighting batman who had years of preparation, a powered suit, lots of luck, and help. And even then batman was the one who "died".

And it's not canon either. In every canon fight I've heard of, Superman wins easily.

But eh. It might be fun. But when you had Superman punching people through buildings in the first man of steel movie, it might be hard to accept batman getting punched and being ok with it. Unless he cheats.

I doubt the film is going to be about them fighting but working together as a team.

So, Lex will be the villain and they have to introduce kryptonite.
As Mola points out, after finally getting a super powered superman its going to be pretty retarded if Batman actually fights him and doesn't get fucked up, fast.

When I saw this I thought it was a joke.

    And I still think it's a joke.

Just not in the.... Joke sense...

    Don't like superman anyway.

    I guess.

At any rate, I wonder who will be playing Batman. Bale seems to be done with it.

I wish DC would get together with Marvel, I'd love to see Batman teaming up with Ironman, now that would be a fun film.

DC/Marvel crossovers do happen. I don't think it's impossible if there was enough demand.

The point is batman is always prepared, doesn't he have a bit of kryptonite in his utility belt to use against sups in case he goes too far

Batman/superman team ups generally rely on the writer ignoring supermans 'super genius' and giving him 'super downs syndrome' in order to make batman relevant.

    Mark Strong as Batman.

What? He's in pretty much every other film these days.
