I don't have much to say but the pain is causing me to do anything, even make a thread just to whine...

Just fuck, the agony. If anyone has any good methods of suicide-due-to-post-dental-pain, please let me know.

I'd offer some advice, but to be honest, my root canal hurt less than a regular filling.

Well I got a filling after the root canal :)

Also, I sounded like a tard when talking to the beautiful receptionist thanks to a half numb mouth. LIFE IS A BASTARD! :p

A nice chicken Phal will sort you out. You'll not be complaining about your root canal anymore.

I had a root canal and 3 fillings, not including the filling ontoof the root canal all in the same session.

The kicker is that the RC didnt take and i was back a week later having it done again!

I always have white fillings, and that stuff is tough to drill though.

I dont remember any post dental pain though, so i cant help you there, sorry!

When I had that, Nurofen helped immensely. Just get some of the quick acting liquid capsules, take a couple of every 2/3 hours until the pain is manageable. You might exceed the daily recommended dosage but as long as you don't do that for more than a day or two that should be fine.

Do not take neurofen every 2/3 hours! Alternate with parcetamol and ibuprofen if you must but don't exceed recommended doses and seek the advice of a doctor.

    FCUTA!

Fair enough. Just looked at the box and it says to wait 4 hours between taking pills so go with that. I was told (by my dentist as it happens) that was fine for a couple of days but no more than that. I think I personally pushed it to 2/3 hours due to pain but possibly that wasn't a good thing to do.

It shouldn't be hurting like that. I had root canal and then a crown all in one session and there was no pain after as bad as u seem to have it. They must have missed part of the infected tissue or part of the nerve? Well.........either that or ur just being a big girly nancy about the whole thing

It shouldn't hurt after... they removed your nerve. I had 2 root canals... totally painless.

Word to the wise: it is incredibly difficult to OD on ibuprofen, but it can still kill if you're gobbling boxes of Neurofen. Paracetamol is a completely different (lethal) kettle of fish entirely, especially if you're taking two different things containing it (e.g. lemsip and headache tablets), which makes accidental overdose a very easy thing to do.

Trust me. I'm from the internet, and suffering with tonsillitis right now.

Think I'll just switch everything off.

I think you can do Ibuprofen and Paracetemol at the same time, if that's all your taking and you don't go on for days. Under doctor's supervision, of course.

Yeah, it's not my first root canal and the first one was fine, just tender for a couple of days. The dentist said this one was likely to be quite painful for a couple of days though because she had to go exceptionally far in as the infection was everywhere (I'd put off the dentist for ages, very smart).

Anyway, after miraculously getting sleep last night, I woke up this morning and the continuous pain is gone, it's just a bit tender when eating :)

If it makes you feel any better, I once had a dentist attempt to give me a root canal without anaesthetic.

I then (unsuccessfully) attempted to give him a root canal without anaesthetic.

Haha, why the fuck would they try that? Seems like madness. In the US apparently they put you under for the root canal. Seems a bit like overkill, but I can't say I don't mind the idea if it avoid the stupid numb mouth for half a day.

@Bremenacht They're fine together - though as mentioned, alternate each kind every 2 hours (not going over the daily dose) so you're getting a 'top up' every couple of hours.

Wait till you've had your 6 of your front teeth smashed by the swinging hook of a crane...that's pain ;)

I needed morphine for that particular piece of dental mishap.

Tooth pain is the worst pain ever. I've broken bones and been hit by a car, but i'll do that all again if I never have to worry about breaking one of my back teeth again.

    And I quote -

"Well the nerve is basically dead, so we shouldn't need to numb you at all..."

    "Uh, wha? [unintelligible screaming]"

Fucking idiot, if the nerve was completely dead I wouldn't have rushed in to see the dentist.

Oddly enough, I have never met a dentist who has seen 'Marathon Man'.
