    Here we go...

The Resident Evil films. I'm one of the reasons they keep making them.

Bit weird. Skyfall very much felt like the end of the "Bond Begins" trilogy, bringing it back to the same sort of status quo we originally had. To now have it continue into that world feels like no man's land a bit.

It always felt like a slightly half hearted reboot, especially with the old lady still in it which didn't make much sense. I have no idea where they can go with it now that would be interesting and not just another simple 'Bond saving the world' plot which I couldn't care less about.

I dont think reboot is the right word for it.

As Kalel says, it brought the story full circle from rookie to seasoned pro, so to continue on in that vein isnt really needed, unless he becomes something of a spymaster himself.

I also thought Mendes pretty categorically stated he wouldnt be doing another one. Not that im complaining. I loved Skyfall, so would be happy to see another mendes/craig movie. I just cant imagine the story they are going to tell unless its back to being a standalone, no baggage, balls out bond movie.

He only said he wouldn't be doing the next Bond film, simply because, at the time, they were looking for a quick production turn around between Skyfall and Bond 24. Which Mendes couldn't accommodate due to other projects he had already signed on to do. Looks like they are willing to wait for Mendes to be ready now rather than moving forward without him.

There needs to be a consistent villain, or villainous organisation. Craig's last effort before a new double-o is recruited.

Broccoli and Wilson publicly stated that they would delay Bond 24 until Mendes was available.

Some cracking visual scenes in Skyfall but thought the film was a bit poor, empty and like old Bond which was boring.

Suppose sooner or later they have to make one with a big evil base that they invade while Danie Craig has his turtle neck on.

Somewhere, amongst all the stuff they've tried, there's a cracking Bond film waiting to get out.

    (maybe)

Well if you're in the minority then let me join you - I thought Skyfall sucked pretty badly (although not as much as Quantum of Solace); Mendes justn't isn't a good Bond director, and the script was pretty damn lousy.

Casino Royale is possibly my favourite Bond film.

Goldeneye is still the best Bond film, although Daniel Craig is for me the best Bond.

I loved Skyfall, but I still think Casino Royale is better. Bond's script has never been as good, the opening sequence isn't matched anywhere else.

Skyfall felt a lot like simple fan-service. Awesome fan-service, but still. I have no idea where it leaves the canon.

I liked what each Bond did in their era at that time. Judging them against one another is wrong because you have to add on all of the social, political, fashion, and musical influences of the time. And remember that film making techniques were different between then and now.

Goldeneye is undoubtedly of its time but it did so much to drag Bond into the modern era. It's the first film where he repeatedly fails and really has to improvise. It does wonders for exploding the expected cliches as well:

    - In the first car chase, the lady wins. This lady is also his most formidable physical adversary.

    - M sees through his persona and turns it into a failing.

    - When escaping the Tiger helicopter he says 'I'm a bit tied up at the ... never mind.' All Bond puns ever sent up, right there.

    - His plan to stop Goldeneye fails and he only wins due to luck and improv (Boris and the pen).

    - He is constantly mocked by everyone around him, Natalia in particular (boys with toys).

    - Other wider cliches are dispensed with (Sean Bean has to check a clock and correct himself on the countdown).

    - His car is tricked out to the max and then never used (I know this was a plug but it is nicely done nonetheless).

    - He never successfully catches anyone he chases after (in the Aston, after the Tiger helicopter, the tank chase through St Petersburg). He never really knows what is going on around him and is repeatedly surprised (he goes after the Admiral rather than the Tiger helicopter, in the Lenin graveyard, by underestimating Robbie Coltrane where he has to think fast, by the missile from the Lake, the marines hidden in the field at the end). He is always playing catchup.

I know there is a lot of pseud wankery in this and I am applying a layer of artistic interpretation over the film, but this is personally why I value it. Try doing this to any other Brosnan Bond film, it doesn't work.

For me, Dalton was the best Bond and License To Kill is the best Bond film. Shame that all the legal shenanigans mean he passed on Goldeneye as by the time it was ready, he thought he was too old.

Goldeneye with Dalton would have been interesting.

The Resident Evil films. I'm one of the reasons they keep making them.

My two cents, I value Goldeneye quite highly but CR just about bests it...
Skyfall was just boring and made no real sense even by their own internal logic...

And DAD was possibly the worst of them all...At least Moore's 4th wall breaking, swagger, JW Pepper stuff was meant as comedic in some way...

AcidSnake - He can't see your sig, avatar, images or vids and talks about himself in the third person because he's proper old-skool...UID 24017
