Just went on live now and neither rainbow six vegas nor shadowrun are being included in the games for gold in Ireland.

So far games for gold has been a complete waste of my time. I even searched the games and they're still full price.

And what was it last time? Dead rising 2 and crackdown?

    Ps4 preorder still solid.

@atomicjuicer R6V doesn't go live until the 16th, and Shadowrun is for South Africa instead instead of R6V. How is it a complete waste of time when it's you who's looking for one game two weeks before it goes free and another that's not free in your region?

Ah, oh dear, do you have to do it through the website due to your occasional location issues?

No problems with location. It's much quicker from a PC to trigger a download and then remove it from my queue so I can download it at any time I want later. Doing that on the dash would be painfully slow in comparison.

Only problems I get with location tend to be region-locked DLC, generally.

Ooh. If you set up a new account on your console rather than on a PC, you get a free month of Gold for the first three accounts set up that way. Could grab N&B for free via a new SA account if you've still got that ability. ^^

Gah, I'd love a copy of Nuts and Bolts. One of the only games I haven't got so far. Although it's so cheap I should probably just buy it.

    @PenguinJim

I'm sure you can't do that anymore. About a year ago all new consoles shipped with a months Live Gold voucher packed in the box and that was basically it. The on console sign up process will only offer you a free or reduced offer if you input card details...I'm sure the inbuilt 3 free gold trials has been removed.

The free games with gold on the xbox360 are shit. Most of them were released years ago now and i have already played them to the max making them pointless for me to download.

The PS3 however has given away some pretty good titles worthy of downloading and adding to the library.

Come one Microsoft give us some decent freebies & not the dated crap you are giving away now!?.

But they're actually giving you the game, free, forever. That's the difference. Sony is pretty much giving you a rental library on subscription, an official Lovefilm Games account basically - and the second that subscription stops they take the games back. MS let you keep the games when you drop XBL. Both games available this month are 7 on Steam right now, and Gold costs less than that a month, so it is worth it.

I imagine MS is already looking into a similar system for the new console, but it's likely just not possible on the current XBL, like the friends limit. You have to remember that the setup of XBL is very very different to PSN, and has been around for over 10 years now. It's a lot of work to implement having "rentals", but really easy to just mark a game as discounted to free for Gold.

With the upgrades they're putting in place for the new machine, I imagine they can overhaul the system - and it's entirely possible the reason why the 360 Games With Gold promo has an end date is that's when the new XBL goes live and rentals, free to play and other such systems go live in the process.

So, don't be hard on them; they are literally giving you games to keep, because they literally have no system in place to allow for rentals. It's what they can do with the system they have. Also, let's not forget that their always-on plan would have made such a system far simpler to implement, and the backlash killed that too.

I wouldn't bother. People will moan no matter what game MS gives.

So you'd be prepared to pay 7 for Rainbow Six Vegas would you?

It's a paltry and derisable offer. It's not quite comparable to PS+ in terms of what it is, but it's still shite and you cant help but compare it a bit to PS+ and the comparison is not favourable in Xbox's favour to put it mildly.

After being all gaga about playing Crackdown again I did get bored quite quickly.

    @Baihu

Indeed, if we were given GTA V next month, people would still be moaning that we were only given one game, whilst PSN was giving away 6 titles.

After MS's series of PR cockups in recent months, it's just the way things are, although it's intriguing how a PR firm has done so badly as to turn 'Look! Free Stuff!' into a bad thing in the eyes of many...

Did someone bump this and get banned, or did you all feel like a preemptive defensive moan this week?

it's changeover day today, so pre-emptive moaning I guess!

Much like Fable 3, this is a game I doubt I'll ever have any desire whatsoever to play, but I've queued up and deleted it on the off chance I ever fancy playing it in future.

As much as I loved RSV back when it was new when I fired it up recently when it was on sale for peanuts it's a game that is really showing its age.

Still fun for some T-hunt action but it looks like the seven year old game that it is.

While free is free, you can picks up the game for like 1 in some 2nd hand store. If they gave away PD: zero or that hulk hogan game, someone would defend them Also utter BS about "someone would complain if they got GTA 5 free"

A free game is a free game! Even a 6 year old one.

Problem is at this point in the consoles lifespan, especially with its creaky mechanics, Vegas serves neither use nor ornament to anyone.

I cannot download Rainbow Six Vegas. I have UK account but I live in Poland. I had it since 2008 because Poland wasn't an option back then. I didn't migrate because I would have a tiny bit of content in Polish Xbox Live. Plus now I have digitally download games, DLCs, etc. - and I assume even if I migrated now, I'd lose those previous Games with Gold as they couldn't be redownloaded, right? So that's the reason I didn't migrate. I could download all the previous Games with Gold games just fine, including Magic The Gathering 2013 a few days ago! What's the problem? It says the item is not available from your current location when I try to get it from my console, and "Your purchase cannot be completed at this time. Please try again." when I try to queue it from xbox.com. I even tried to use a VPN that I know it works, but it still didn't fix the issue. I am mad beyond belief - Rainbow Six Vegas IS AVAILABLE in Poland. What's the problem?

If I'm an ass, I should say so. If I don't, somebody else will. If I say it first, that disarms them.

Serves you right, going over there stealing their jobs, respecting their women. COME HOME.

Anyway I had a brief softening of bitterness with some of the earlier games, but this month has brought back memories of 20 ms pts birthday bullshit. With that and Kinect MS have voided all the goodwill built up over the last 10 years.

The recent change where the Xbox wont start up unless the TV is switched to the right input like a fucking baby was the last straw.

    Fuck You Xbox and goodnight.

@Salt_The_Fries I certainly can. Download the free Chrome extension 'Hola Unblocker' on your laptop/pc. Set it to uk. Sign into your Xbox Live Marketplace on your laptop, find the game and select 'Download to console'. That's the game purchased. Next time you log in on your Xbox it will download. ;)

And yet Terrorist Hunt is still an amazing co-op experience that many people still play.

It's an each to their own thing - if you want to pay Sony to rent their games, fine. I'm quite happy getting a couple of games free with a service I have, that'll still be there when the service isn't.

Well, Terrorist Hunt won't be. You need Gold to play it anyway. :s

Actually I think I'm thinking of the wrong game mode. The one were you have to rob the casino. That's the one I like.

I'm pretty sure that's not a recent change. I think my Xbox has been doing that since 2009. At least on start up. I think it's to do with the HDMI input.

It has been like that for ages, it seems to require a handshake from the TV it's plugged into otherwise it won't boot, not sure when that was changed in the OS but it could have been NXE.
