Since the 2012 thread is currently being recycled.

I didn't see any cycling this weekend. Booo!
Out and about yesterday and today.

Thing is i wonder if all the stages, signs, scaffolding is standardised size for ease of set up... hope the same doesn't happen tomorrow, or either the team bus turns up as a open top coach.
They normally let the buses through and then lower the scaffolding that hold photo finish, time display, etc.
The Orica bus arrived late after it had been lowered but was told to continue on through (at least the driver claims so) hence getting stuck.

Nasty fall but I'm impressed Martin is starting today.

What a ride today though by Bakelants! I'm sorry I missed it. So cool to see an attacker getting the stage and so damn close.
The rest finished 1 second after him. :-)

Well this is a bit fucked. Lucien van Impe, tour winner in 1976 was on a Belgian sports show earlier. They asked if he was attending the 100th tour cosing ceremonies in Paris. He said he'd declined because he finds it fairly distasteful that Richard Virenque is parading around the Tour village like some pop star despite his doing past.

Naturally Lance Armstrong wasn't invited to Paris for the 100th tour celebrations. I thought he had a point but "Virenque parading around like a star" sounds quite vague.

Until they held up the offical tour booklet, a thick A4 affair and showed this ad that is included in it.

That's a bit rich no? A bloody FGestina advert, in the tour's own magazine.

I also came across this when looking online for a picture of the advert.

Van Impe has always hated Virenque, he probably only did the bit on tv just because it was an opportunity to say what cunt he is. As for a Festina advert in the tour magazine, well, they are the official time keeper aren't they? Regardless of what the team they sponsored did, it would be hard to accept their timing services and then deny them any advertising no?

What's the odds on a spot of terrorist action from some Corsican seperatist group before the Tour finishes up there then?

Oh they're welcome to all the advertising they want. Just feels a bit iffy for a known doping user to be featured prominently like that.

Didn't the separatists hijack a bus and drive it into the finish line yesterday. :-)

There's some nice bike porn on one of those sites where I found the Festina advert.

Heh. I invited a few non-eg friends into the mini league (fearing it would be a 4 or 5 man affair like the Giro).
One of them set up a team but didn't get around to joining the league.
    He's now joined.

In case you wondered who the hell is suddenly eclipsing Mal at the top. Having Kittel in his team sure paid off for him.

As mentioned in the cycling thread, Geraint Thomas is sounding in a bad way with a fractured pelvis.

Kacheshkin of Astana has apparently abandoned, can't be long until Thomas pulls out either. Any recent word on the state of Tony Martin's injuries?
  • Deleted user 1 July 2013 14:18:06
Havn't heard from Martin, but his still there.

Yeah thomas sounds bad, i think he might have a go of a big turn at the start tomorrow, and then pull aside and abandoned.

Martin doesn't have a fracture as was first feared but he did have a concussion and numerous other injuries. He decided to start stage 2 though and he finished it. Post-finish yesterday, he said he was optimistic for the days ahead.

Martin was actually chasing down the last breakaway attempt in the final few kms today. Mad.

Not often you see them cross the finish and just look at each other wondering who made it. :-)

Meh ... team time trial. Boring to watch as it unfolds but exciting for how it can shake up the rankings.

    We'll see how it goes.

Lots of people going for a Garmin win that would see Millar in yellow, I'm opting for a BMC win that might put Cuddles in yellow?

It's only 25km though, so time damage is limited.
I'd love to see Millar in yellow, was gutted the other day when he just missed out. He must be retiring soon....

    Is the thread broken?

edit: weird ... it mentioned "last post" by DaM but there's nothing here.
Thought he might have deleted a post maybe.

Garmin look pretty strong for this one. For sake of fantasy team hope saxo and team sky do well ;)

Looking through the stages, doesn't really look that interesting till saturday. Tomorrow or friday might throw up something fun.

4 seconds difference between Garmin and Omega-Pharma Quickstep at the mid point. Could go either way.

For the sake of my fantasy team I hope Vacancesoleil does well. :-)

I should possibly have checked how the TTT worked for the fantasy league before selection.

I feel my two Euskaltel folk might not gather many points today. At least it's only a short course, so they can't lose too much time!

I totally forgot to take the TT or TTT into account. Hell I didn't even notice I have 3 or 4 guys form the same team in my line up.

    OmegaPQ's average on the TT: 57,8 km/u
    Pfff.

edit: is DaM banned? I keep seeing him listed as the last person that has posted but there's no posts.

    Aaaah, yes I did actually.
    /sheepish

Impressive ride by The Aussies. Didn't expect them to take first place.

No points today from my Eus folks as I expected. I don't think I dropped too many points today though, so will hopefully be ok until the mountains, where my team will hopefully fare a bit better than in time trials.

Or until Froome or Contador get into yellow, or Cav's train starts winning stages, when I will begin the plummet down the table.

Gerraint Thomas got some points at last, which I appreciate even more given the pain he must be in!
  • Deleted user 2 July 2013 23:11:57
    Great ride from OricA!

Anyway! starting to climb the table, here we goes boys! got a good 90 odd points.

Same vortex, my team is based around the mountain stages, after getting pipped by salaman (i think) last year on the last stage of the tour, i hope to do the same this year :)

    Predictions for today??

Most of the comments I've read are going for a sprinters day with an outside chance of a breakaway being able to last.

I'm predicting a Cavendish win with Greipel and Sagan in close contention.
  • Deleted user 3 July 2013 10:24:14
yeah a lot of people are saying its a sprinters stage, but stage profile seem pretty hill rolly, so something fun could happen.

Stage might be delayed though, according to carlton kirby, most teams are delayed in a traffic jam!

Yeah, people are talking about a "guaranteed" mass sprint, so I was surprised to see the race profile had so many little hills.

I think a few of the usual suspects will be in a breakaway. Hoogerland, Boom, Chavanel (again?), Flecha,...
Then they get caught and it's a mass sprint with Sagan taking his first stage. He was so close 2 days ago, so he'll be keen. As it's a bit hilly I would expect Cav to have used up a bit of strenght getting over them hills, robbing him of the necessary punch.
