That's bull. There's been games in the past doing that stuff without the need of a cloud.
This argument can be applied to anything in the computer world.

    Time to move on dude.

If the X1 starts with dedicated servers for every game that would already be a HUGE win for gamers. Everything else that comes out of the Azure architecture is extra candy. I expect games designers to come up with some really cool stuff TBH.

I think Microsoft thought that gamers would be misty eyed at the thought of 300,000 dedicated servers on the cloud but Microsofts shrouded messages have left the public with only a foggy understanding as to what benefits it actually brings.

We'll see. I expect everything it does will already be available without it and the need of an Internet connection.

Actually, that's a good point. This cloud need the Internet. Not everyone has it so...

@SG59 sooo.. games that utilise the cloud for core functionality will stat a requirement for the internet. frankly i imagine the number of boxes that aren't going to be always connected when on is pretty small.

This has been part of PC gaming for years. On the back of the box stating the requirements. I expect Cloud requirements to be part of this as well.

It's amazing. The same people slant the same way in both X1 and PS4 threads.

It's almost as if people have already formed an opinion on what's best and will not be moved.

    AMAZING.

    Come and get it cumslingers!

Game developers are not going to do anything with cloud that cuts them out of the PC or PS4 (or even more) markets. The only people who are going to spend any dedication to getting the most out of cloud gaming features are the ones Microsoft pay to. Based on their Kinect support over the last few years, that is bog all.

PC can take advantage of the cloud...I'm pretty sure my work laptop is doing that right now.

    Come and get it cumslingers!

I am assuming MS will not have dedicated servers for each game. More that they have a certain amount of servers that can be used on the fly for whoever needs them.

So one server might have Modern Warfare 4 on it one day and Halo 6 the next.

If there are dedicated servers assigned to one game only you end up with games with expiry dates. If say Killer instinct had a week in a few years time when no one played it then the server it is on would become a waste for MS. And they might decide to close it down. A month later when you come to play it you just get an error message.

We know Microsoft isn't offering it for free now so I doubt you'll see every game support it.

Will be nice for 1st party stuff but yet another misleading feature in the Xbox One unveiling.

Microsoft have to prove how much of a difference it makes.

It has been said MANY times before. Azure servers scale according to load. So if nobody plays there will not be a lot of servers, when millions play a lot of servers will be started up.
