@northernlights I swear dude, there are loads of people on the isp forums complaining about the same issue. I went to my mates house to install some updates and airport was working perfectly. I know it's bizarre but the router is the issue. I was hoping some network people would have a work around our something.

I'm also off my more than ample jugs on gin, so take my advice with a pinch of snuff.

    @Progguitarist

You may be right there are so many factors involved but
Remember when researching products issues for products
Purchased in thier millions they are many known issues which
Aren't known issues just a vocal minority

Verify the HDD though dude ! In disk utility see what it says

    ;)

Get yourself an external hard drive. If your apps/data really are/is precious you need a backup anyway. Then you can grab 10.8 too. Router problem solved, non-backup problem solved.

@Progguitarist I can't grasp how a packet from any source could crash anything. The protocol is essentially "this looks like crap but I'll have a go at interpreting it and I'll bin it if it's utter pish." I'm mad for networks and this intrigues me.

[edit]Actually, that's not true. I remember from a job I was doing a few years ago that a malformed packet broke a certain bit of hardware. I retract my retraction.

@northernlights yes. All good according to the disc utility. Seriously bizarre situation. I got as warning about an ip clash last night when it started to happen. I hadn't used the Mac since the new router was installed.

    I thought I was cool
    knowing about things
    related to networking
    but I come across
    as an idiot.

[Edit - I got haiku and limerick mixed up.

    Not the Irish thing.
    Japanese ones are shorter.
    Another black mark.]

Broke the quotes with my wrinkly fishj-0fingers:

Opening gambit from the Fuckin' Geordie Fuckin' Scrappin', like, Team was a deafening "Did you just call ma Thoonda-bowlt a kweeeeah?" which the Fulham AppGarglers replied to with "You're goin' 'ome in a fuckin' iPod app!"

Bit late to the party but was going to mention that upgrading to 10.8 might be problematic if any important software you use requires Rosetta to run, assuming you might not want to fork out for newer versions if available.
