So I decided to cook a curry last night. And because of this thread I decided to make it a bit of a hot one. Started with a jar of Partak's Phaal sauce, then added some onions, peppers and a healthy amount of chillies to give it a kick.

And kick it did. Was almost a bit to hot but I managed, and it was very nice . Wish I hadn't though. I think I've burnt all of the inside of my mouth. Stomach is churning this morning and though I've only been to the loo once it was not a fun experience.

I cooked enough for two portions and the second one is now sitting in the freezer for a later date. I know from cooking chilli that after sitting in the freezer fir a few days; stuff always come out hotter. :(

It's not possible to "burn" yourself with chilli, it doesn't have any effect on your skin at all. All it does is stimulate the nerves on your skin and tricks your nervous system into reacting to the irritant. You really do just need to man up and get it down you.

It's also possible that I just ate it whilst it was still a bit hot...

I think elstoof knows the state of the inside of your mouth a little better than you, thank you very much.

@Megapocalypse simple answer, stir in a few spoonfuls of plain yoghurt. Or add some coconut milk.

Have you got a reference for that stat? Genuinely interested.
Saw it on TV once :p

'twas a documentary about MSF physicians or something like that who treated people in some countries. Doesn't sound like hard proof the way I say this, I admit.

But since aggressive stuff like that obviously attacks your stomach (there's a reason why you should take great care not to get it in your eyes), I'd expect it to be unhealthy.

edit: for God's sake, I hate that smiley. It's always far off from what I intend to say with that emoticon.

Back home after entering the annual chilli eating contest at the local festival. Came third this year. Lost my guts after eating a Trinidad Scorpion Moruga which is apparently the hottest variety in the world currently.

The stomach burn is just starting to kick in so I can expect a few hours of agony interspersed with periods of calm while I drink as much milk as my digestive system can handle.

I'll win next year damn it.

Is "lost my guts" meant in the metaphorical or literal sense in this case?

Great, I'm all hungry now. I would love a sheekh kebab or samosa to start off with, followed by tandoori lamb chops, and then some lamb/chicken tikka masala with nan bread and rice, and maybe some tarka dal for some vegetarian balance. Washed down with mango juice and maybe finish with pistachio ice cream.

I'll go and make a cheese roll instead

Sorry, but as someone who has *a lot* of experience in this particular area of food and such, i can tell you that you are wrong!
Certain chilli's and chilli extract *does* leave a superficial surface burn, it goes away after a while with fresh chilli, but extract *can* leave a lasting mark.
I got it in my eye once and my upper eyelid swelled up for about 2 weeks.

    It's not retarded, it's manly.

@robthehermit How do you deal with the ring sting?

If you can read this you really need to fiddle with your forum settings.

Never had ring sting, and I'm a curry addict. I always think the ring sting is due to slight diarrhea caused by bad food hygiene, rather than the spices itself. Eat at an establishment with better hygiene, basically :)
