Can't agree more, I find Aliens practically unwatchable now thanks to the horrific writing and characters and it's the best of all the rest.

Martin Scorsesi is not a directorial god. His only truly great film is Goodfellas, Taxi Driver is watchable but Raging Bull, Casino and Gangs of New York need to be wiped from the collective memory of mankind for the greater good.
Gangs of New York, I'll give you that. I didn't like it either. But the others? In the words of Derek Trotter, shut up you tart! :D They're classics.

The Dark Knight Rises is the best Batman movie. I say that after initially hating it but after subsequent viewings came to the conclusion that it better than Begins and actually has a more satisfying story than The Dark Knight which is just a series of set pieces.

This may be unpopular, may not.

Two of the best films I've seen in a long time were Indian Bollywood films. Not quite as polished as western films but really well thought out and interesting.
My ex was of Indian background and we used to go see Bollywood films all the time; I was surprised at how entertaining they were, the seemed to be more sincere and better thought out than Western films. Plus the women were way more stunning.

@senso-ji I'm not a fan of shah Ruhk khan cheesy type stuff, but I find much of Aamir Khan's films to be of excellent quality. He makes films that say things without being overbearing. Rang de Besanti, three idiots and like stars on earth are all excellent films.

Also saw a great romantic drama called raincoat. (Full film on you tube)

Also agree on the ladies. The better looking Indian ladies are absolutely stunning.

Frank Langella should've won the Oscar for Frost/Nixon.

Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead are massively overrated.

C3P0 is an awesomely pompous golden busybody, and as such remains untouched by the shitness of the prequels despite said shitness being so pronounced that it has infected the original trilogy.

Alien Resurrection is watchable but ultimately flawed. It gets points for being atmospheric (and disgusting) and having some interesting ideas. Pretty crap other than that, though.

I did not take to Alien 3, but perversely, absolutely love Resurrection (don't worry I have been mocked already in these forums for that opinion).

The other one that gets people staring and pointing at me as a mental person is The Chronicles of Riddick, fantastically realised world and Thandi Newton as a wicked witch character in skin tight dresses, works for me, but not many others.

Cannot wait for the new one coming out.
Didn't Joss Whedon say about Resurrection that they said the lines that were in the script, but performed them in completely the wrong way?

Also, +1 for Alien 3. Especially the Director's Cut. Ace film.

I'm not sure why Heath Ledger got so much praise for the portrayal of the Joker.

I think comic hero movies are a bit naff and there's far too many of them.

Muppet Treasure Island is the greatest film of all time. Not really, but it's one of my favourites.

Stargate was an awesome film and always watch it when it's on TV.

The first Resident Evil film is great.

The Fifth Element is the best Die Hard movie.

Looper was the best Sci-fi film I'd seen in a long time.

Haven't read rest of the thread but I honestly can't think of a more overrated thing in history that the Star Wars films. They are mediocre at best with some awful writing at times. I appreciate how different I would probably feel had I seen it at the time of release.

The Incredibles isn't that great, infact, even though I love Superhero flicks, I found it quite boring.
Mallrats and Clerks (both of 'em) are shit!
Zach Snyder is, visually anyway, one of the best directors in Hollywood right now.
    Battle Royale was kinda poor.
The Hulk is better than The Incredible Hulk.

@captainrentboy I enjoy Kevin smith films but I didn't see why clerks was so madly loved.
However I did like Mallrats despite its silliness, I loved chasing Amy, and I actually really enjoyed Jersey girl, which was massively underrated due to having Affleck and Lopez in (even though she does after ten mins)

Ralph Bakshi's Lord Of The Rings had better Orcs than Jacksons.

    Same here.

I have tried to like Begins more, and its an ok film but somehow I couldn't get into it much. It even feels like its trying too hard and feels a little forced.

TDK was very well made but lacked emotional engagement for me personally. It was an enjoyable spectacle but also a surprisingly empty one.

TDKR felt like the culmination of the three and was the most convincing. Its a more rounded film, the emotional engagement is there, the characters are dealt with in a better way unlike TDK which really relies on the Joker too much as its trump card.

Enemy mine isn't the likeliest answer for a "name that film" thread.
