TheSixthAxis have got the details on the PlayStation Plus version of DriveClub.

" The PS Plus edition of DriveClub, revealed yesterday, will – according to Evolution – be the full version of the game in terms of features and mechanics. However, it will launch with a cut-back number of tracks and cars. This’ll mean that players will be immediately able to jump into the game, form clubs and compete online.I asked whether that would mean more cars and tracks would appear as DLC to bulk up the game to the ‘full’ version but didn’t get an official comment. The PS Plus version will be part of the Plus subscription. "

Don't you get it free with your PS+ sub (as a carrot to dangle in front of you).

Seems to me like they've downgraded this a bit since the original unveiling. I imagine they're being a bit more realistic now that launch is approaching.

Love the look of the courses, but no traffic is disppointing.

I'm reserving visual judgement of drive club versus forza until I see in-game footage.

I hope drive club is as good as it could potentially be.

Hopefully some of Sony Liverpool has rubbed off on Evolution during the merger*.

*When I say merger, I mean it in the same way that I merged with a Pizza last night.

It's a strange one, the footage I've seen (even the current one) varies wildly in quality. Sometimes it looks astonishing, sometimes it looks pretty poor.

These guys did Motorstorm didn't they? I just twigged.

Hmm. I loved that, Pacific Rift was one of the most perfect arcade racers of the generation. I feel that standard car games are too plentiful at the moment, and would rather something a bit more offroad and fun like that again.

Apocalypse was a misstep. I thought it was a bit turd. Course design and graphically seemed to be a step back. If you can get Pacific Rift, that was a pure joy. Excellent game.

I hated all the Motorstorm games, a big step back from the WRC games. Hopefully Drive Club will be a big return to past form.

I really liked the first Motorstorm, missed Pacific Rift for some reason and Apocalypse is just too flashy and bangy and apocalyptic for my taste (tried it when it came out on PS+).

This means, however, that Evolution is clearly capable of making good games, so there is hope Drive Club will at least be competent. Not Forza 5-competent, but that's on its 5th iteration, so it's doubtful Evolution will be able to match it on their first try.

Pacific Rift was the awes. Took the original, refined the bits that were a grind, dumped in a shit load of excellent tracks and then left you to have a laugh with it.

I liked all the Motorstorm games. Probably the first the most, as it just looked really good being a launch title.

I don't think this is competing with Forza. They have said it is very far from a car sim. Looks more of a PGR feel.

I thought Pacific Rift was shit, because in so many places you couldn't see where you were supposed to go, since everything you saw was just jungle, and only saw where you needed to go when it was too late. You really had to learn the tracks inside out, quite unlike MS1. The first one had an over-emphasis on crashing already, in Pacific Rift it jost got ridiculous imo.

Yep, I'd agree with that. I really enjoyed the tropical, sun-kissed setting and there was a lot of fun to be had with this game. Zipping around some of those beach levels on a dirt bike trying to avoid being crushed by the big trucks was always a blast! Definitely my favourite of the Motorstorm games.

Yes they aren't going for full on sim with Drive Club. One the Evolution blokes is on a guitar forum I go on (Hello mate if you're here too!) and he told me this earlier:

We have a nice internal sim which also lets us adjust the tyre pressures and watch the sidewall deformation along with the resultant contact patch. Whilst applying impulse forces to simulate real running dynamics. Then we tweak the hell out of the cars settings to make it fun
Sounds a lot like the approach of PGR. Convincing but fun, so the cars display the characteristics of the real vehicle but enable you to drive it like a pro. It's an approach I like in more "sim lite" games. I definitely prefer this in my arcade racers to Grid2/Ridge Racer approaches.
