I'd say Rayman Origins is just about better, but DKCR does run it really close. Although I've still got a long way to go to complete DKCR fully (including the secret levels), so my opinion may well change later.

I think they're both as great as each other, although DKCR just edges it for me because of my nostalgia for the original games.

All the eurogamers who actually play with each other on xbl rather than just post pseudointellectual pc handwringing bollocks on the forums, love the shit out of biggy.

    Cheers guys :)

One for further down the road when I've shifted some games from my backlog perhaps!

Um... How do you actually use the items from the shop? This final boss is too tough and I old do with some bonuses...

That's a tough one. They're both pretty great. Hard to decide what's the best between all the platformers... Sonic does speed the best, Rayman keeps a smooth pace, DKCR I tend to play quite passively (except in cart stages) and Mario is sort of inbetween. To me it's all personal preference really, I'd say Sonic Generation's 2D stages on console were my favorite, but they're all great.

@RyanDS When selecting a level it should give you the option for adding items...

    Duh! Cheers.

Final boss complete. Good game that, but I traded it in as soon as I completed it. It was rage inducing enough just trying to finish, if I tried to get the secrets as well my 3DS would be through the window in minutes.

Did you do the temple levels. I remember two in particular that required 50+ lives to complete. They were evil. Still a brilliant game!

I don't think I finished the Wii version in the end. It is super difficult towards the end.

Quick question - did this game come with a manual? Can't seem to find one so not sure if I've mislaid it or it never came with one...!

    @Humperfunk

Press the home button during gameplay & bring up the digital manual.

So, for those that have both games, which version is the one to get?

    Wii uses waggle.

    Enough said.

I've played both and 3DS is definitely the best version IMO.

I think I need some sleep. I read this as "Cheese gays" and then when I got to the part about "one for further down the road," I thought you were talking about cruising for cheesy gays and was like, "What the hell does this have to do with Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D?"

I'm struggling to play this because the graphics keep going out of focus if I move my head or the console slightly to one side, even with 3D off. I know this happens to an extent with all games, but it seems especially pronounced here.

Perhaps I need to work on staying perfectly still :-|

Are you sure that the 3D is fully "clicked" off if you're using an XL? Because the image shouldn't be going out of focus at all in 2D mode, on any game. O_o

...you know, I've owned a 3DS XL for 6 months and didn't realise the 3D slider clicked off. Well isn't this embarrassing!

Heh, it seems to be a common mistake among new XL owners. Though I can't imagine how anyone would think having a slightly out of focus 3D image even in 2D mode would be normal! :p

This arrived today and its gobsmacking. Not noticing any framerate issues and the game looks gorgeous.

Had it on wii but hated the controls.

Graphics look better than I was expecting. One more reason I love my 3ds - now where is Metroid Nintendo!?

Some of the minecart levels are ridiculously difficult!

I'm going through the secret temple levels now, and as expected they're pretty damn tough, even on new mode with the extra hearts. I can definitely see why the Wii version was criticised for its difficulty.

Playing in Original mode on 3DS, seems way too easy so far, glad to hear it ramps up :p

@zoolophage havn't got the 3ds versions yet, on the wii version, the down button sometimes didn't work properly. Infuriating!

Controls are a lot better on 3ds for sure, which makes it slightly easier. I'm now on the 4th boss and finding the game very challenging. Great stuff, though! Not for those who are easily frustrated.

Some off the levels are tough, only just noticed the items in the shop, being invincible during one off the barrel levels would've come in handy.

Do the items activate straight away or is there a trigger button during gameplay?

Loving it, 3D so amazing have died many times just staring at the surroundings, 3D is definitely better on the XL than the standard model.

    You're not wrong.

When this game gets it right, it's sublime. The weightiness and fluidity of DK's movement makes it a joy to play. But when it wants to be a bastard, like those hateful minecart and rocket barrel stages with their trial and error instadeath bullshit, it takes every shred of willpower I have not to lob the 3DS out the window. Memorising every inch of a stage is for shmups, not platformers.

But I keep coming back to it, and that's the sign of a great game.

Possibly trying it on to the point of insult, but does anyone have an unused Club Nintendo code for this game (I'd like it for the So Many Games Promo - I have 2 and need a 3rd).

I'm not a newcomer, and Kay can vouch that I've been handing out Monster Hunter codes.
