Seems an awfully expensive outlay to play sub-optimal emulations of elderly games.

LB, you really are a massive geek.

Since the GBA ports of games like Super Mario World were changed somewhat to suit that handheld's screen, I want to see what it looks like in a much more unchanged format on the gamepad.

Does this include all the titles formerly dribbled out on Wii VC too?

No, in true retarded Nintendo fashion they will be dribbling titles out form scratch.

I can understand the 'dribbling', even if it's annoying. The best selling games on the Wii's VC were unsurprising. Dribbling them out at least gives other titles some time in the spot light.

Yeah I couldn't be bothered to wait with that. It could be another six years before Chrono Trigger is released again. What's wrong with a single Steam like store that works through the generations? This isn't just aimed at Nintendo here.

Yeah, now that we're on the verge of a new console generation, its becoming clear that (Microsoft aside, we don't know yet how they are handling it) Sony and Nintendo could be doing much better in the generational shift.

I don't mind re-releasing the games for Wii U compatibility, but if Nintendo wants to really capture the retro enthusiast gamer, a demographic that grows more and more every year; they need to be more, well, enthusiastic. I'd like to see more new games release, that have not yet been seen on the Wii or 3DS virtual consoles.

Granted, it must be hard to convince 3rd parties to go through the trouble releasing on the virtual console, which makes it hard to get to new releases. Which is probably a sign that something about the process needs to change.

Yeah well it's making digital media seem pointless. I've wanted to move to digital storage for years, but it seems like they're just going to hit the reset switch every generation. I thought the point of digital was that we weren't restricted by disc types and drives any more, making content easily transferable. It's anything but and I'm probably not going to invest much into the coming generation.

No I definitely agree with you. Anything less than allowing the material to be there for multiple generations is stupid and self-defeating.

But let's be fair, you can transfer your Wii and DSi games to the Wii U and 3DS, as inconvenient as the process might be and you can buy the old games on the new stores for both consoles if you play them in the old compatibility mode, so they did get that part correct. The Vita kind of sort of got it half correct too.

Very odd. I'm not sure. I transfered over all of my Wii VC games at launch and left them there. The moment Super Mario World became available on the eShop it was at the reduced price.

@Oceanstar, as with Raiko101 the reduced price automatically appeared for me. Have you linked your Club Nintendo account to your Wii U?

    @Pinky_Floyd

Pretty immaculate. The pro controller is really good for it too. I've missed the Nintendo dpad. You can tuck your index fingers under the trigger casing and it feels perfect. Such good design.

It's never looked better; had it setup with the Wii SNES controller and it was sublime.

Unfortunately, I'm bloody terrible at it so I ran back to NSMBU and 3D Land to hone my poor skills!

I thought it was just me. Every extra life is a godsend!

Once you get used to the handling the controls are perfect though, really precise.

Super Metroid in a couple of weeks then, can't wait.

My all time favourite game. I'm going to blast my way through that and then finally try out Metroid Fusion, which has been sitting on my 3DS, unplayed, since it was given away.

    Super Ghouls 'n' Ghosts?

    Sold.

I still remember getting Super Metroid in its massive box for 15 quid from my local Woolworths back in the day.

One of the best purchases I've ever made!

Do Nintendo allow you to choose running the game in 50hz or 60hz, or do you only get the 60hz? I only Balloon Fight and Sonic the Hedgehog in 50hz, using the mystical magic of yousetubies, but I imagine its not quite as accurate as the real thing.

Still it was pretty shocking. Did something feel off back then, or is it something that was introduced only when emulating the old consoles and PAL TVs made up somehow for 50hz difference? Sonic wasn't actually all that fast in the 50hz version I saw, everything was like it was running in slight slow motion.
