Here, have some characters from the other thread:|
Thought it looked massively gimmicky. A step in the wrong direction from Galaxy in my opinion.
|Just looked at a video on the front page. It looks like they've just ported the 3DS Mario to the WiiU. Absolutely nothing special about it.|
|looks fun if i'm being honest.|
|Looks alright. Should look better than that though really. Looks like an high res wii game.|
Deckard1 wrote:You're judging that from a heavily compressed 720p youtube vid?
|It looks like it would be a nice 10 quid download title, not a full retail release game.|
|Just seen this, it looks like they've never seen any of the other 3D Marios and were told to make a 2D one 3D.|
|It almost looks like it had been done by a different studio or something, in that slightly derivative way that sequels look sometimes. I recognised a lot from the Galaxy games but it was all somehow less inspirational and exciting.|
|Well it's the same visual style as the 3DS game, so I guess that's their new 'thing' for the series. Buuut I'm just not feeling it anyway - nothing offensive in there it's just... boring, at this point.|
|Peach looks so cute in her pink cat suit.|

|I think this looks great. The fact that it's the same team who worked on the last 4 3D Mario games is comforting. All I hope is that this offers a decent challenge for experienced players.|

What people don't realise when banging on about another Galaxy, is that Galaxy didn't really sell amazingly considering the install base on the Wii.|
It sold 10m copies whilst New Super Mario bros sold 26m, nearly three times as much.
Now, as much as it might piss us off, you can hardly blame Nintendo for making a more accessible, family friendly Mario platform game.
And who knows?
It might be the best of both worlds.
|I'm a massive fan of the galaxy games and really had high hopes for this one but I think it looks garbage myself and I've never ever thought that about a 3D Mario game.|
|I'd feel better about it if Nintendo understood the concept that is non-local co-op.|
This looks exactly like 3D Land on the 3DS. Which was fucking awesome.|
I dont understand the hate.
daddygerplex wrote:Problem I have is that I didn't like 3D Land on the 3DS. I thought it was average myself and I've never thought that about a Mario game. For me this is a massive step back for a 3D Mario game. Visually it looks like a Wii game. Its just a missed opportunity to me.
But I'll reserve proper judgement until I see more of the game.
daddygerplex wrote:I don't hate it but I found the presentation a bit underwhelming because it conveys the sense of scale a portable game would, as opposed to 64, sunshine or the galaxies.
A. We'll see how it turns out.
B. I should play 3D Land to begin with.
We should have all realised after calling the handheld one "Land" that "World" would have followed.
Touché Nintendo. Touché.
Personally i was hoping for old skool 3D Super Mario Bros 2 though with the turnips
|I think I was just hoping for another Mario 64 type game but this just seemed more scaled back. Again will need to see some more footage.|
looks great! really does look better here than through that stream.
|I dont think nintendo were ever going to change the look of the mario games, im def not blown away by it but i cant imagine it being a terrible game all the same.|
Am I right in thinking that this is also the first 3D Mario game to work with the power-ups being your health rather than a health bar?|
Thanks for those videos joelstinton! I do think this looks fun and will no doubt enjoy it but I also feel like this is the stop-gap title before a Super Mario Universe or similar.

|2 player looks a lot of fun 4 player looks a bit too hectic imo. There was a dev diary video posted in the locked thread that is worth checking out|
|Can't say as it excites me in the slightest, unlike when SMG was released all those years ago.|
so are they expecting the extra players to control a character in a 3d world using a Wii controller Dpad, or are we all buying 3 more wiiu controllers?|
Neither option sounds particularly appealing to be honest
Also, I love the way it pauses when someone picks a power up (up), just like when someone dies on Super mario u and it pauses for a second, throwing you off your game and causing you to die mid jump.
