I can see both sides of the argument. For me however, it boils down to a simple fact - there have been too many Mario platformers released recently, so Mario 3D World doesn't look or feel particular unique, when it really needed to be to distinguish itself from the recent releases. It feels too safe for a proper big 3D Mario adventure.

I don't think you'll find any argument there. It is most definitely a safe approach, so few are going to be overly excited. Personally, i'm one of those people who'll take more of the same if I loved the last game, so I am genuinely excited about this.

I missed nsmb wii and nsmb2 so I guess I am not having as much platform fatigue as some others but I am really enjoying nsmb U and 3d land was second only to mario 64 in terms of enjoyment so I am really looking forward to it

NSMB2 was pretty dull actually. It had it's own gimmick, but generally felt quite uninspired. I had the same feelings with that game as most people have with the series in general. However, I though NSMBU was great. It's just more engaging somehow.

Promising preview on the front page

    Highlights

I've never particularly been a fan of multiplayer Mario games, but this is by far Nintendo's best effort yet. I was looking for a huge, deep Mario platformer to be announced at E3 - and while some will say that 3D Land doesn't quite match the scale of previous games, Nintendo has yet again crafted something different, a 3D Land-style hybrid that it obviously hopes will appeal to all types of Mario game fan. After E3 it was easy to write off 3D World as just another great Mario platformer, something less than the series' standouts. But after actually playing it, it's clear this will be another experience to remember

To be honest, unless it is unique and looking to be the greatest game of all time, or something as revolutionary as SM64, it was always going to disappoint some.

This game, along with the NSMB series, makes Nintendo seem very fucking lazy. The new Sonic for Wii U looks better than this ffs.

'Look at you, hacker: a pathetic creature of meat and bone, panting and sweating as you run through my corridors. How can you challenge a perfect, immortal machine?'

Take a look at the E3 Sonic gameplay footage, then take a look at the shitty reused assets Mario 3D World, it's obvious which one has had more time and effort into it.

@joeymoto108 actually I like to think they both look amazing, looking at it the guys at saga have done a fantastic job and this might be the best 3d sonic yet. Saying that Nintendo have proven time and again that they know how to make Mario games fun and personally what I have seen hasn't disappointed me

Regardless of anything you just said. It's a Sonic game. There is no way it's going to be any use, let alone better than a modern Mario game - no matter how bland.

You obviously haven't looked at the gameplay footage then. The good bits of old and new Sonic, obvious Mario Galaxy influence, seemingly very good level design, it's shaping up to be a great instalment.

Don't forget that Colours and Generations were both pretty great.

Colours was good, but let down by the Colours gimmick. I can't comment on Sonic Generations, but Sonic 4 was quite a let down. Hopefully Lost Worlds reverses the trend. There's always hope with a new Sonic title, but something always seems to go wrong.

I actually have. It looks like an Ok sonic game which is poor in comparison to Mario.

Why does this thread feel less slimy than most Nintendo threads?

Lastly, I am gay, disabled, and a liberal.

Just watched the trailer. The game looks good but also at the same time appears to retread much the same ground as Galaxy. I guess it will all come down to the new powers and how the multiplayer shapes up. For all that I'm super looking forward to playing it this xmas!
