    Hey Fatties!

    What's your favourite non-sugar sweetener?

I'm doing the 5:2 Fast diet and need to cut out sugar in coffee. I've dropped from 3 tsp to 1, but would prefer to take none at all, but I need a sweet tasting coffee.
I remember years ago that Canderel was reasonable, and that Sweetex was revolting with a strong saccharine after taste.

Hence the call for recommendations before I go to buy something later.

Sugar. Properly, the other stuff is always a bit dodgy.

LB, you really are a massive geek.

I find a change of coffee brand can help - I take less sugar with milder coffee. That might be just me though.

Coffee isn't supposed to be sweet anyway, surely? Just a spoonful to perk it up a bit.

This. The rest is phuqqin poison.

Learn to drink tea and coffee without milk and sugar. You will get used to it and never look back.

Real sugar is only something like 16cals a tsp anyway - just getting up off your sofa and going to make a cup of tea will burn that!

2 sugars and an after coffee wank and you'll even end up ahead in the calorie burning stakes.

Like others have said, avoid using sweetners, they really are awful and not worth the relatively tiny calorie decrease they offer.

Find another way to reduce, or stop using sugar altogether really are the best options.

I just moved a lettuce leaf and there it was!
    /bad-a-boom tish!

I'm finding it to be not too bad actually. Today is my 4th fast day. Last week I was away in Belgium with work and tbh it wasn't so easy to monitor my calorie intake to 600 cal, but skipping lunch was easy enough.

Rather stupidly I didn't actually weigh myself before starting - our scales are so shit that I get a half stone difference depending on whether I lean forward or backward!!
I'm hoping for a smaller tummy and less jowly chin! And to be 13 stone or less (which will of course require me to weigh myself at some point).

I don't think I got *any* votes in 2012 so something went wrong somewhere. Despite the number of hugs dispensed at the Expo!

Is that your picture in your profile? You don't look too bad, esp if cameras are supposed to add a few pounds...

    Yes, that is me.
I've always been slim, but am definitely getting bigger... (10.5 stone at uni, ~14 stone now.) I will hit the big 40 this year, so figure this might be the time to address things like weight and blood pressure.

I agree with the sugar or nothing approach. Sweeteners are really nasty, personally I have a near instant violent reaction to any and have to avoid at all costs. If you notice, nearly EVERY soft drink now has them in, not just the diet brands either. Even bloody tonic water, orange etc.

Know why? Because whereas a company might need a mountain of sugar to make their drinks, they only need a tiny ammount of chemicals as a substitute. Many though have been linked to cancer etc... so it's just another simple case of their profit before our health! Sick.

As others have said, you soon get used to coffee and tea without sugar, and it tastes nicer too! Just maybe gradually cut sugar down. That's what I did. No point in replacing sugar with a greater evil though.

Sorry for the ramble... and good luck!

Stevia's fine healthwise (or at least, there's only spurious evidence to suggest any problems, rather than direct "this will make you shit liquid acid" stuff as with the artificial crap), but expensive as fuck.

Incidentally the same is true of margarine and butter. There is fucking disgusting stuff in margarine. It's gross.

I always think you're going to do best eating sensible amounts of natural food, and getting some exercise. It's not rocket science. It's also sustainable.

Yeah the butter/margarine is another. Someone was also telling me about harmoginised milk being bad for you. Though there is so much scaremongering its tricky to tell what's what!

I personally think keeping things as natural and as unprocessed (and chemical free) as you can is the best way to go.

What's the deal with the butter/marge thing?

I've eaten margarine all my life; just because I don't like the tatse of butter.

There's good evidence that homogenisation causes allergies, but it's much of a muchness as raw milk has apparently been known to cause instant death.

I think I'd go with homogenised personally.
