Just upgrade the cooling paste, you'll get an average fps boost of 15fps.

@SuperBas 15fps from a paste upgrade? I seriously doubt it.
Paste and a better cooler maybe, but even then.

It's easy, with the new silverite nano-particles in the latest generation of cooling paste, maximum heat-pixel efficiency can be achieved.

Have you been talking to Vizzini?!

Forget voxels, it's all about the heat-pixels these days.

The i2500k blew the Phenom II away. Enough that with a reasonable overclock it's powerful enough to keep up with the next gen consoles for quite a while the Phenom II will need refreshing when the design of the big releases isn't limited by supporting the current generation.

So saving a bit now is probably a good idea.

I'm pretty happy with my Phenom II. Had it for a couple of years now I think and i've not really had much to push it too far yet.

And you think you know a person!

Think it through from first principles just like I would Rob. Why would I be for or against CPU/GPU overclocking, with or without quality cooling paste at 74 degC ambient on new equipment?

If you get stuck, Buztafen might be the man with the answer; he was last time.

@vizzini it seemed a very specific bit of detail that reminded me of yourself!

    *with quality cooling paste

You can also try using a different case.

It's mostly open, so there's lots of room for hot air to escape, thereby dramatically increasing heat-pixel efficiency even more.

Not actually slagging it off much more powerful than anything needs at the moment. More commenting that eventually PC versions of games designed for the next gen consoles will need a little more oomph. Though that could well be a couple of years in the future.

Really? The 660 OC editions aren't much more than a tenner more are they?
Unless prices have shifted since when I bought...

I was happy with mine until I stuck Planetside 2 near it. Going from x4 955 to i5 totally changed the game.

@Widge not sure, I agree that for ten quid it's probably worth the extra for the 660!

Incidentally I installed my new 7850 yesterday and I am very happy with it. If only for the fact that my PC now doesn't sound like it is going through a grinder when I play a game now.

Very grateful to you all in this thread for the advice. Now when I buy a better K+M I'll have upgraded my PC quite handsomely for about £350
