...because I would, I probably spend more time reading articles here than on any other gaming site.

I realise that adverts are what keep freely available websites running and I see the value of that but I really hate EG's current advert presentation. The interactive/video ads on the main page and the "More from the web..." section at the bottom of articles are the most offensive. If there was a subscription offered to read Eurogamer without adverts, I'd certainly be interested.

How much would it have to cost to make doing the extra work on the site worthwhile? For less than 30/year I'd be sold.

(Throw in full content RSS feeds and a regular podcast and I'd be ecstatic)

Why would I pay for this, when I don't for pay for 99.9% of the stuff I use on the net?

Paywalls have worked so well for other sites.

Rauper, just post under your own user name, no need for a sock.

I'd probably throw a couple of quid at a tidy, compact work-safe version. Not many though.
  • Deleted user 18 April 2013 23:07:00
I might if it meant someone made the site work properly.

I'd pay for a certain Robert Florence to come back...

I think the option of paying to remove ads would be lovely but I doubt it would really pay for Eurogamer as ad revenue is probably quite lucrative. I can imagine the cost of implementing it would be prohibitive too. Although I can imagine a lot of people use ad blockers and they may be happy to pay to remove ads.

You are a factory of sadness.

Maybe back in the day I would have purely for the forum, but not now. I do pay for a Giant Bomb premium subscription though. Worth every penny.

I feel slightly guilty for using it, yeah. But damnit, they're so very intrusive I get over it pretty quickly.

They're not intrusive at all if you use Portable mode.

    Portable view.

Give yourself 5 or gig, you're worth it.

I'd pay for an ad-free account. The amount of time I spend here it would only be fair. Seeing as I block all the godawful adverts.

He's otherwise engaged to be making a post like this. :-)

Anyway I think EG should pay me for my posts, in fact I'll mention it next time I see Rauper.

I would pay if certain members weren't allowed in the forum.

Nah, repeating, flashing videos are a killer for me. I'm the same in a pub with fruit machines, I just turn into (more of) a retarded goldfish.

I'd happily pay not to get those PM ads that try to sell me DLC for game I don't even have the console for, that momentarily make me happy that someone, somewhere wants me to read something they've typed personally for me.

Don't get me wrong, I'm also happy to keep it this way on a free site, but if there was an option to pay to stop those, I would.

I'd kick the living daylights out of the producers of Tipping Point - Ghandi

I'll pay for EG only if they offer us DLC as well. Want to make a new thread in News & Politics? Only 3 quid to download Forum Category Pack II!

Paywalls are terrible. As I said, I can see the value of making the content available to everyone ad-supported, I'd just like the option of removing

To be honest, I'd rather pay for most of the free things I use regularly on the internet. If you're not paying, you're the product and I'd rather use a site that's motivated by serving me better rather than one that's motivated by serving its advertisers better. Sometimes the objectives line up well (better content -> more readers -> more ad-views) and sometimes they don't (bigger, more intrusive adverts -> more ad-clicks).

That said, I currently have a job and less free time than I used to, I'd never have considered paying for EG when I was at uni.

Considering that everything apart from the forums is the worst thing about the site..not at all.
  • Deleted user 18 April 2013 23:44:03
I'd happily pay a one off flat fee (10) for EG given it would provide security in the knowledge that I've given value for something I get value from. Make the forums and - and possibly comments - read only without the sub (stop stammers and thread spoilers - unless they're really committed) and I'd still happily let them advertise.
