Well, i do believe the almost unthinkable (at least to my friends) has happened, i`ve seemingly without much/any prior thought and consideration, quit my alternate reality within Azeroth. A switch just seemed to flick inside of my brain, and i`m done.

So after 8 years i`m back on the gaming scene, and looking for suggestions for games that i really should have played, the killer ones that i`ve missed and really need to explore.

Currently i`m tucking into BF3 and Dishonored, with Left 4 Dead likely next on the menu, but what else would you guys (pc wise) say i should be sure to check out?

The Witcher 2. Although it might tempt you back to WoW with its slightly familiar setting.

As far back as I can remember I always wanted to be a ninja.

Not done the hotel route, but i spent most of the 80`s and 90`s at home doing that ;)

    What made you quit?
Was it boredom? Was it the grind wearing you down?

Im playing DC online at the moment. Its my first ever MMO and i really enjoy it. Ive been playing it for over 2 years now but i worry that im wasting so much time on the one game when there are soo many other good games im missing out on.

I wonder if i play it for the fun or just to keep up with everyone else. That i don't want to get left behind etc.
But yeah, after being an MMO virgin my whole life i now see how they can be so addicting.

Well it's not on the PC, but have you seen the MMO called "The Outside World"?

Yeah i must say the 3d aspect of "The Outside World" is what initially drew me in, well, that and the newly patched in "Smell-o-vision".

Wogsy81 - nothing in particular and a bit of everything, as non-sensical as that may sound. I`ve been a gamer for nearly 35 years, having owned and played almost every console and every title of note until the launch of WoW.

Many facets of WoW really struck a chord, the art, the lore, the levelling process, the classes, the raiding ... i could go on and on.

It was also my first proper MMO and frankly the title offered so much gameplay and such a wonderful community aspect, at least within a guild enviroment, that i never really felt the urge to try much else aside the Mario and Zelda games.

It was (and perhaps still is)just such a fine example of gaming, and if you count in the development of vanilla, over a decades worth of fine tuning doesnt hurt either. Its just so damn polished almost everything else MMO wise at least, pales.

As i said earlier though, i`ve had my bellyful. This expansion hasnt really cut it for me in terms of styling and lore, and the gameplay has almost inevitably after so long, become a tiring, endless procession of "dont stand in this" and "nuke this target first".

This is something seemingly inherent within current action bar based raid design, and until theres some signifcant innovation, i`m not sure i`ll return to subsciption based MMO`s again ... although Wildstar and TESO both look pretty good haha!

I find the problem with MMOs is that when you get into one every other game seems pointless as you should be playing your character gaining gold/experiance/pvp points etc.

Unfortunately for me I've suddenly got the taste for Guild Wars 2 and I can't stop bloody playing it. Help me!!

Edit: Also sadly WoW at one point was the only thing holding an old relationship of mine together.

Torchlight 2? Good for quick bursts of ARPG (position saved as you play)and long sessions too.

Put some time aside, grab a coffee, put your feet up and then play Dark Souls. Head over to the thread on here for help/discussions. It's one of the most unique gaming experiences this gen. It's weight and gravitas will be a refreshing tipple after 8 years of light and floaty WoW gameplay.

How did you stomach WoW for 8 years?!! I got bored within 6 months. I hate playing the same game over and over.
Same thing happened with Skyrim, only a single player console game but, bloody hell, does that game drag on and on and on...

I`ve been looking at Dark Souls and its follow up this morning, they both look terrific, thanks for the heads up.

Oh, and theres a degree of irony in a fellow gamer using geeky sterotypes, jokey or not, dont you think? :p
