Who knows, perhaps they'll let him do it if this film makes a fuckton of cash.

The Resident Evil films. I'm one of the reasons they keep making them.

The film looks great. But am getting fed up of seeing too much of the story in trailers. No mystery anymore.

Yeah there's WAY too much of the story in there! Still looks great though...

I hope Neil Blomkamp turns down Star Wars every time it's offered to him.

They are really hammering the Sci Fi at the minute.

This looks like the sort of film you could always find on video for 99p in the local corner shop. Probably starring Christopher Lambert or Mario Van Peebles.

Read a review of this in the latest Total Film which got 3 Stars. The reviews are starting to come in. Very mixed but the ones I've read so far have been average.

Not that that's ever stopped me seeing anything though.

The Resident Evil films. I'm one of the reasons they keep making them.

It looks like [X meets Y incoming]:

A cross between Battle Angel Alita and Die Hard

    He totally called it

Saw this last night. It's good but not great. Stunning effects, decent but forgettable story, and it runs a bit too long (could have done with a general speed up of most bits). Some weird camera movements and the action is very busy.

Worth watching but not as good as D9.

    @Derblington
Are the action sequences filmed well? Some of the reviews are saying that they're terribly edited, with all the 'hard to follow' shakey cam you'd expect from a bog standard action film nowadays.
Which surprises me, as I thought he shot fab sequences in District 9.

There are a couple that are a bit shakey and he employs a weird "follow" cam (as though its attached to the actor and spins around as he moves) which adds an unwelcome motion blur but they are used very sparingly. I didn't think it was hard to follow, just unnecessary.

I thought the trailer had more of a mass effect vibe than halo, I actually thought it was a mass effect movie for a bit.

I am very sad to hear this has shakey cam action sequences, I am getting sick of them.

You are a factory of sadness.

Sequences isn't a fair description, more like shots.

My god that was a stupid movie. I was crying with laughter at the end.

It's a good thing they disabled the missile defense system before Spider getting that ship to Elysium. And by "missile defense system", I mean "this one South African guy with a missile launcher".

And it was good that Elysium didn't have... oh, I don't know... a small army of robot soldiers to protect itself against 3 random guys with guns. Evidently they were busy abducting refugees.

And why did Elysium want the poor unwashed to not have medical treatment? Because they're giant racists or something?

Why was Jodie Foster in this movie? Why did she speak French?

Why is a frag grenade to the face a wound you can get better from, but a knife to the throat not? Whyyyyyyyyyy

It looked pretty, but yeah, from about halfway through it became a complete mess. District 9 was much, much better.

    - Yeah, one man wielding a missile launcher having such power was a bit weird, looking back. Felt like it was just a way to introduce his character, felt a bit shoehorned. There's clearly more to their defences than that though, as Foster's character was telling the Carlyle dude what they'd continue to buy off his company.

    - Evidently Elysium thinks it is so safe that it doesn't need to have an army like that. And I get that tbh, Earth's population is in such a state that they're not really anything to worry about (till the events of the film, obviously). Sounded like all the ships that tried going up there got shot down too.

    - Bit harsh of you this one; I think it's entirely just a scenario where they wanted to ignore Earth and just get on with their lives on Elysium. They don't care for Earth.

    - She's there as a plot device really if you ask me, and I don't see the problem with speaking French. Maybe English and French are the two main languages up there. If Canada can do it...

    - Er, because Foster's character (forgotten her name clearly) didn't make it to a medbay thing whereas the Krueger or whatever his name is did? Not sure what's puzzling for you here tbh...

All in all, I really enjoyed it but it was pretty stupid, flawed and I can't see it doing well in the awards season. With that said I think you're pretty unfair but to each their own.

All I can offer is what I thought after seeing it. That was what I thought.

It looked nice, but it was a mess. It was like they had no idea how to end it.

And I disagreed with a couple of your thoughts. What's the problem?

It's all subjective but the last point you raised in particular just doesn't make any sense for me.

There is no problem... I was just saying is all. It wasn't meant to sound defensive. If the last point was objectionable - maybe it was - then I can supply a few more things that didn't make a lick of sense to replace it.

Anyway, it wasn't a complete disaster or anything. Maybe I was just a bit disappointed after liking District 9 so much.

Fair enough. Like I said - it is stupid, I don't think even its biggest fan would deny that.

I'm kinda with mola - a lot of it didn't make sense.

    But I did enjoy it
