So for the past couple of weeks or so, I've been swearing away at my phone while trying to browse. Then I realised my phone was still fine when using other sites, texting, using other apps etc. It's literally just EG.

So I've been doing some investigation, I determined it happens on any browsers I try, and that is the ads at the top of each page that cause the issue.

If I stop the page from loading before the ad appears I can browse the page just fine. However as soon as the ad, or even the loading place holder thing appears everything slows to a crawl. Scrolling becomes difficult, links are hard to click as they take time to respond and typing is almost impossible. As soon as I close the tab everything is fine again.

Anyone else having this issue or just me?

Oh and it's got far worse since that Oblivion ad started.

    Sorry to hear that :(

Are you browsing the actual mobile version of the site, or either of the HD/portable versions?

Can I also ask what model of phone you use?

    Hi Tom!

What phone / browser combination are you using, and i'll take a look for you.

Does this behaviour happen on every page you visit or is it limited to just certain pages?

You wait ages for a developer and three turn up at once!

It's not just the mobile site. I've been getting error messages of the format :

' A script on this page is causing Internet Explorer to run slowly etc etc' for months.

EG's bordering on unusable at the moment. I did report it, but...

The Oblivion ad is screwing up Chrome on a Nexus 4, the browser hangs while the ad shows a spinny thing.

    I blame Scientology.

Oops. I meant to include that detail. My bad.

I'm on a HTC One V which admittedly is the entry level model, but does well otherwise. I've tried both the built in browser, which is just labelled "Internet" and Chrome, which is what I use most often. Both have the same issue.

It occurs on all pages, main site, forum, individual threads and articles etc. as soon as the ad loading indicator appears at the top of the page. This is in mobile view only, it actually works fine in portable although it takes a lot longer to load each page for obvious reasons.

Using WP8, the ads at the top can be very annoying when browsing the forum. You load up the forum page, click the link you want, and boom you're in the wrong thread. All because the slow ass ad that hasn't finished loading yet has realigned the page. It's a pain if you're an impatient person who can't wait the extra half second until the ad inserts itself and lines up all the text.

    Oh yeah, this as well.

And while I'm having a whinge, any chance of a link to the mod tools on the mobile site so I don't have to switch to portable every time I want to ban a spammed?

Also, the moon on a stick too. Thanks :-)

We've disabled the ad that we think might be the problem while we investigate. @MrTomFTW can you see if this fixes your problem at all?

Same as Deckard1, it's fast and smooth now. All the issues are gone.

My browser experiences performance issues when neilka is logged in... can we apply the same fix?

I see the ads are back on mobile. I've had to switch to portable as they're just crippling the browser.

This time when the Spinning Pinwheel Of Doom appears the browser stops responding. I can't scroll the page or follow links. Of course if I stop the page loading before the SPOD appears everything is fine.

I've left the page loading so see if things improve after the page loads, but gave up after 10 minutes, the SPOD never goes away... It just keeps spinning... Taunting me...

The forum is a total pain to use on the iphone right now. It keep jolting around while ads load, which means you tap something and it goes to a different page that just moved its link down to where you were.
