    I don't think I've ever read work as diverse and consistently brilliant by any other author. First James Herbert now Iain Banks what the hell is going on with my favourite authors?

    Gutted indeed - from feeling a sore back to being told you have months to live in the matter of a few weeks. Difficult to comprehend. :(

    Really gutted. From a pure selfish point of view that there will be no more Culture books, but also because whenever I've heard him speak, he always comes across as a wonderful person.

    God no, no-one has captured my imagination as much as Iain Banks with his ability to twist a plot and hold your attention. And no more Culture novels. My kindle will never be the same again :(
