Hearthstone - A new a free to play digital Trading Card Game game by Blizzard, based in the Warcraft Universe. It will be release on PC, Mac and iPad.
Opt in to beta in your Battle.net account management
Beta begins this summer, with release this year.
The game will be easy to pick up, but have a good amount of depth and complexity.
The board is 3D, with lots of animations to make gameplay more exciting.
Over 300 cards with the initial launch
You can purchase more card packs for roughly $1 per five cards, or slowly earn them through gameplay.
There will be Basic and Expert cards, with Expert cards being broken down into categories like Common, Rare, Epic, and Legendary.
You’re guaranteed to receive at least one card of rare or better quality per pack.
Each card in the pack also has a chance to upgrade to a “Golden” version of the same card.
Disenchant cards that you don't want to receive dust, which is used to craft new cards.
There is a deck builder, which can build decks for you, or you can build your own.
The game will be a 1v1 game using Battle.net matchmaking.
Playing will allow you to earn medals every week.
You can also play against AI at different levels of difficulty.
Any purchases you made during the beta test will be credited back to you in the form of new, unopened card packs at launch, equal to the value you spent during the beta test.

Thing is i can already imagine exactly how this will play out. It is a card game after all with micro transactions.
In one of the videos they talk about how its old school core blizzard team is working with it so that gives me hope. However the blizzard of today are all about the micro transactions.
Just watched an actual game and it looks pretty mental. No idea what's going on.
I'm hoping that you won't have to know every card in the game to play your cards well.
I think the only "Pay to Win" element is buying extra cards, rather than earning them in-game.
Maybe, but I'd be surprised if they didn't release special guaranteed cards.
So, anyone playing the closed beta? It really is a fantastic card game. Lots and lots of cards and options and the game itself is streamlined so it generally is done in 10 to 20 minutes. Also, lots of ways to customize your deck through game play and/or buying cards. Nothing I have seen so far suggest play to win though. Yes, you can get some rare cards through the store (random in packs, not picked directly) but none of the ones I have seen guarantee any kind of success. Every card can be countered and it comes down to your deck and using your mana points available to best affect. You can also buy packs through gold earned by playing so you can get rare cards without paying with real money. And there is crafting. And arena. And so much more... Argghhh....
Also worth mentioning that the cards themselves look great and all creatures, spells, weapons, etc. are very recognizable to WoW players. I think this is going to be a big success. I can definitely see myself playing this for a long time.
If anyone has any general questions about the game I am happy to answer if I can.
I'm patiently waiting for a key for this. Have three battle.net accounts opted in but so far nothing. And yet people are selling them for 100-200 euros a pop.

Any chance of a Eurogamer giveaway at some point? Or someone who has a key and won't be using it....willing to pop it my way?
It's looking like tons of fun.
Just got my opt-in beta invite for this today. If you are opted in check your mailbox! Specifically junk/spam or if you have Gmail the Promotions folder as mine was buried in there with a ton of other generic stuff.
Good stuff, hope you enjoy! If you have any questions let me know. Also, feel free to add me: BeheretiK#2404
Yeah good chatting with you today. Having a lot of fun so far.
Are there any other EG'ers that are in the beta?
@Venatio Any word on Eurogamer dishing out some late beta keys as is usually done close to a new Blizzard product launch?

When is this actually launched?
I imagine it's fairly soon as many sites are dishing out as many as 4000 beta keys every week not.
@Roddles Sorry, haven't heard anything...

Rumour has it, Blizzard are saving it for a launch to coincide with Blizzcon next month.
The game is very polished now, has some bugs but already fewer than the number most games ship with. The whole thing is pretty slick (and addictive).
I can only imagine that with the giveaway happening, many more people will flood into this thread soon!
pity the EG giveaway is new user bait as I'd quite like to try this
does it have a chess ranking ELO system?
Say what now?
Yeah, it's a shame that legitimate users of the site might lose out due to a load of chancers registering simply to get a key.
I bet the instances of beta keys being flogged on ebay are going to skyrocket this time next week.

Game looks super cool, can't wait to check it out.
There was a competition the other week (PC Gamer I think) where hundreds of keys were scanned/pulled/read or whatever from their website by hackers or some other unsavoury fellows before they'd even put the "Claim Key" button live. Thirty minutes later a whole load of beta keys showed up on eBay for £100 each. Unfortunately I think something similar happening (or at the very least being flooded with new users) here is pretty much a given.
Yep. Restricting the competitions to people who had accounts prior to the competition going live would at least solve that problem. If there are keys left over after that then by all means shower them on the wider internet. But it doesn't seem worth it for the technical issues it causes as the site buckles under the spike in traffic or the increased hassle on mods to sort out bot accounts.

Well I'm a johnny come lately to this site. And yes was pushed to register for the giveaway.
I get the vitriol for this sudden surge of sign ups, but personally I've held a Blizzard account for 8 years been playing WOW for most of that and have signed up to the Beta since it was available.
I've put a lot of money into Blizzards pockets but I still haven't received a code, so they are kind of causing this bun fight.
For my part I will attempt to add something to the community as a gesture of good faith.
Good luck to everyone - well except the aforementioned ebay key selling bar stewards
