A thousand times this. Jungle Strike was perfect. Urban introduced the on-foot sections and it all went badly downhill from there.

Links (seriously someone make a golf game for PC, EA don't want to)

On Red Faction I would want them to further develop what they did with Guerrilla. They had the bones of something very special there that they threw away. Once you got the jet pack fully powered towards the end it really opened up the way you could play. No idea why you did not have that from the start. Really if they could just have sorted out the AI to allow the possibility of stealth and stop the constantly spawning enemies it could have been so much better. They also needed to sort out the driving physics so it was actually fun and diversify the environment a lot more.

It's one of those cases of instead of improving on the formula they threw out the whole thing and we know how well that worked out for them.

Blade Runner needs a reboot / new version. The one on the Amiga was great for it's time but this could really be done properly now.

Blizzard in general. Hoping the reveal in 2 hours might actually be a new IP.

I'd like to see St Dragon (16-bit shmup) re-imagined, I always liked the mechanic of the invulnerable tail being used to protect the head, a bit like the Force in R-Type.

Or about SW.IV with four-player online co-OP, with people being able to jump between copters and jeeps. I suppose it's market is playing Battlefield now!

Other than that, Streets of Rage, and maybe even Final Fantasy. Ditch all the emo wankery and just make an RPG that's fun for the player, not just the director.

A lot of the games people are listing really don't need reboots, just sequels.

Why would Timesplitters or PGR, for example, need properly rebooting as opposed to straight sequels?

I take it you mean 2D Mario Games as the 3d ones change quite significantly each generation.

@Ultrasoundwave Aye, I know it was Games(TM)'s - I was just disagreeing with 'em :D
UT is kinda shadowed now by a million other first person shooters. Turok was fun but doesn't really warrant more games and Resi has been humped to death that it can probably just die now.

    Timesplitters would be cool, though.

    I'm a grumpy bastard.

    Rollcage!

Though it'll never happen, you only have to look at the front page today to know that.

Silent Hill and Resident Evil have both had awesome reboots. Shattered Memories was one of the most atmospheric (and dare I say emotional) games I've played in recent years. Resident Evil's remake was so good, I'm not sure how they could remake it again. If they did, going by the current trends, it's be more of an action game. The GameCube version is the perfect survival horror.

What I think the Resident Evil should do is disregard the last two entries in the series. Just forget about Resident Evil 5 and 6 and carry on from 2004.

    Rollcage!! Great choice

I'd love to see what Treasure could do with RType. Just playing Final and it's so so slow and redoing huge bits over and over gets dull!

It's the difference between reboot and remake. A reboot would be a different series altogether, but with some of the elements of the old series carried over. In most reboots its little more than the characters names.

    Dont confuse remake and reboot.

A Resident Evil reboot, with new characters, new settings and a fresh take on the formula would be very interesting.

If i was Capcom, i would do what they did with DmC and give it to a Western developer - maybe someone like Starbreeze or Obsidian?

    Halo definitely needs a reboot.

343 did a great job copying the gameplay formula, but the plot now is so dreadful on a surface level and so dependent on the expanded media to get to the depth that it badly needs a reset.
    .
Yeah, they decided to retcon somethings and now they have written themselves into a turd corner. There was no better time to leave it all behind. I am actually starting to believe that studio was in development hell with Halo 4. They didn't half piss money and time away. That was honestly the best they could come up with while Bungie was finishing off their contract.

Ghost Recon needs a reboot, there is nothing like it now besides maybe Arma which is so much more. Forget the XP shite. Fill the void

Splinter Cell, Rainbow Six as well if they don't melt into every other action game out there. Wish they would stop chasing the same thing.

Over the years some franchises have simply lost their way. Casualties of ever-evolving trends and technologies, beloved series’ struggle to maintain relevancy. games™ charts 10 franchises in desperate need of a reboot.

    huh?

Unreal Tournament is still to this day one of the greatest first person shooter experiences you could ever hope to find

Mostly, yeah. I think both Rayman and LBP as well as some xbla games like fez have shown Mario's 2D output to be lacking somewhat these days.
