Er, I don't see a thread for this game so maybe we need one?
I have not much to contribute so far, except that they are probably slightly improving Tidus's looks. See the picture here.
And I might, you know, buy a Vita for this.

    The Master of Unlocking.

As nice as this is, I want a 360 release more. I don't want to buy a VITA just for this.

I keep meaning to get in to FF games. I never really got along with VII back in the day, and never got it. Having played the odd JPRG over the years I'm now keen to try it again, and the Vita looks like a good place to try this cos I'm fucked if I have time to play them on a proper console.

tl;dr - which FF shall I get for the vita if I've not played any of them? Are these a good starting point?

Thanks for expressing interest in my signature!

You can't go wrong with VII on the Vita. The PS store has them on sale quite often for around £4 each.

The best ones are IV, VI, VII, VIII, IX and XII. Can't beat a proper world map and text instead of terrible voice acting.

6, 7 and 9 were the ones that did it for me. I found 10 very disappointing. I played it though as it was pretty, but the story and characters were very meh. Blitzball was the best thing about it.

I loved 10. Would love to play it again in HD. Just not on a handheld.

    "HD"

It's just going to be an upscale for which you've been able to do for years in PCSX2.

Also the Vita's resolution is close to SD anyway.

    Native widescreen is nice though.

It is going to be on PS3 too, so maybe it should be in General Gaming? Just a thought.

I'm interested in Both, just hoping it's not the usual 9 months later in Europe deal. FF 10 was one the selling points of the Vita for me.

I've started right at the beginning, and really enjoying it.

Bought all those available so far.

If you want to get your "in" into FF I'd suggest starting with 9, or maybe 6.

7 is great but going back to it now it feels so clunky, and it might put you off while 6 is great and you can forgive the clunkiness because it's the pinnacle of the 16bit era. 8 is probably the weakest of the PS1 games.

"Clunky" is a pretty accurate word to describe all of them really. They just don't quite feel right these days.

I played them all in the last few years on the PSP.

Lacking any nostalgia my views were...
FF7 - Clunky, confusing plot, and generally dated as fuck. I finished it more to try to see what people saw in it than anything.

FF8 - Better story, still clunky, never finished though as got stuck on final boss and couldn't be fucked to grind.

FF9 - Wow, now this was a game worth playing. Great characters. a bonkers but fun story, and I just generally thought it was fantastic to play. And the ending was perfect.

FF6 - Seemed okay, but I got to one bit 5 hours in where I kept dying and just couldn't be arsed.

So in short, FF9 is fantastic even today, the rest I just feel are not worth playing these days. They aren't bad, but like Tomb Raider and Dune 2, they may have been amazing at the time, but just feel too clunky now.

    Opinions arseholes everyone etc etc

9 was boring, 12 onwards are shit and boring, 6,7,8 and 10 were great. 10-2 is the best girls game I have ever played.

Is this HD a proper remake or just upping the resolution to HD?

X-2 has been my least favourite of the series with XII coming in behind that. Still love the PSone games despite their flaws.

Proper. New textures, widescreen, hopefully some AA too!

6 has some intense difficulty spikes. 7 or 8 are better starting points.

Have you got a source that mentions new textures?

So if it's a proper remake I'm assuming they're going to render the FMVs in HD?

Played FF8 recently on an emulator, the blurry cut scenes and low res pre rendered back drops looked very iffy.

Well... it's damning with faint praise. Honestly 7 I never understood for one second what was going on. Something about METEOR and random other words plucked from a dictionary that were capitalised and thrown together randomly. Then someone died then the game just ended.

At least 8 I could follow. Schoolkids doing stuff for something or other.
