Paypal - risks?

    I'm selling some cables on the net (ads on a German hi-fi classified site) and a guy in Hong Kong offered to by a cable.
    He quickly paid the full asking price with paypal, he's verified and googling suggests he's the director of a material chemical lab so nothing seems dodgy.
    However, I've read about scams where an account is hijacked, used to pay for something and then the payment is later withdrawn.
    I don't think this is the case at all but I'm being a bit paranoid about being a muppet and missing something.

    I would think if he was part of some big international scam network, there are better places for him to make his fortune than an obscure German hi-fi site. Would you even be asking if he wasn't from Hong Kong, you big racist?

    To be honest, no.
    It is the fact that it's HK as there are plenty of hi-fi scams from there, fakes and stuff like that that makes me suspicious.

    I’ve been screwed around by PayPal before (read about it here, here, and here).

    Just make sure you:

    • Receive payment 100% before sending.
    • Only accept payment through PayPal, not by cheque or cash.
    • Only send to the Authorised Address, nowhere else. Even if they beg.
    • NEVER allow for local pick up.
    • Always get proof of postage.

    Check the order details page.

    Whether or not the address is verified will be flagged.

    It says that (The sender of this payment is Non-U.S. - Verified) but I can't read the verified address.

    Seller protection should still cover you, as long as you can prove that you posted the item. That means a signed for delivery of some sort which has tracking. Something equivalent to UK recorded delivery.

    Without, it even if you are being obviously ripped off PayPal will shoot you down.

    Think its a bit harsh to start worrying about papal risks so soon.

    The poor chap has only been in charge a week.

    @Cappy Nope, it doesn’t cover you unless you send to the authorised address. Even with proof of delivery.
