I have setup a petition asking the Government to regulate against in app purchases and micro transactions. Please take a look:

Did your kid rack up a huge bill on your iPad and Apple have refused to pay you it back?

All the eurogamers who actually play with each other on xbl rather than just post pseudointellectual pc handwringing bollocks on the forums, love the shit out of biggy.

Its a shame that petition is so badly worded as i do agree that in app purchases should be regulated in some fashion.

    Awwww, that's so cute.

But yeah. Microtransactions will only go away when people stop buying ingame content or those retarded "Season pass" things. Fucking EA.

Ah, just read the petition - so you're basically against "Freemium" games. I'm with you on that, but fuck the petition. Fuck all will get done about it.

    I'm a grumpy bastard.

They are; under normal consumer regulations.

What we need is less legislation and more common sense. And/or basic parenting skills.

The best regulation is, frankly, not to be a dumbass in the first place. Our daughter plays on the iPad and guess what? It has no games with microtransactions on them.

One particularly disgusting example was a tinkerbell game where you had to make clothes for the fairies. Guess what it asked you to do when you ran out resources? Its absolutely appalling that a game designed for very young children asked you to buy thread and buttons at 99p a shot.

It got deleted from the iPad in seconds because I check everything I download for her.

This - definitely this. These kids have to be spending serious time on the iPad to be able to rack up these huge bills!

Not really. It's pretty easy to hit a button a few times if you have no concept that you're spending real money.

    Give 'em some Nintendo instead!

The Resident Evil films. I'm one of the reasons they keep making them.

Do these devices have an option for a security check before purchasing when you link your bank card to your account. Like the 3 digit code on the back of the card when you want to buy something?

Parenting is paramount but companies are sneaky fucks.

I would say MS, pr mouth piece moment, have gone in a good direction with that kids corner feature. Not sure how in depth it goes but one way to help.

Seriously. On certain apps you could spend over 1000 in under 5 minutes if you wanted to.

Yeah, often the purchases are pretty abstracted in-game which is... yeah, sneaky.

Well, the issue is that the password (used to?) keep the account open on a timer, so if you bought a game for your kid they could start spending money without needing one.

In restrictions you can make it so every purchase requires the password.

    NO EXCUSES FOR IDIOCY.

Then it should be on by default, no? Or at least ask when you first sync your account so people actually know the setting exists in the first place.

Agree with the sentiment. The best way is simply to not buy them.
