John Riccitiello steps down as CEO of EA

    REDWOOD CITY, Calif.—(BUSINESS WIRE)— Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: EA) today announced that John Riccitiello will step down as Chief Executive Officer and as a member of the Board of Directors, effective March 30. The Board has appointed Larry Probst as Executive Chairman to ensure a smooth transition and to lead EA's executive team while the Board conducts a search for a permanent CEO. The Board will consider internal and external candidates with the assistance of a leading executive search firm.

    He didn't really resign, he just couldn't get to work because someone had blocked the road with a fleet of buses, fire engines and cop cars.

    What worries me is that EA have actually pumped out some good stuff in that time, with their tactics before that being arguably more mercenary - and leaning back in that direction now they're so keen to climb back up the FTSE ladder.

    What did EA do before digital games? I thought they'd ALWAYS been a video games company. :o

    Yeah, his tenure was definitely better than Larry Probst's. They were a fucking awful company under him.

    He tried a lot of interesting things and I think his intentions to turn the company around were sound, but it never really came to fruition. This is nothing to do with Sim City, but EA have been making annual losses for the last few years, so I suspect Riccitiello was pushed rather than jumped.
