Well I'm playing honourably - at least in the early game. I'm a bit unsure about a few of the others though...

Not had any communication from the UK yet, makes me wonder if that's deliberate on his part.

Oh and can I just say, I can see myself agonising over some of the turns in this game! Loving it already :D

I'd like to know how Diplomacy plays out in real life. I'm liking that we have no idea what anyone's really going to do at this stage, but surely you lose that aspect when facing other people?

From what I understand, at the beginning of each turn there is usually a period where people go off into different rooms to have discussions, or pass notes, etc etc.

Moves are then all written down and passed to a GM overseeing the match, who resolves all the moves and conflicts.

Hmm, now I'm not sure that's entirely true, is it?

You run off into different corners of the house and have a lot of secret discussions. At the end of the allotted time you then go and write your orders (in secret), then either an "umpire" or through trust, you read out your orders in turn then resolve any conflicts.

It will take over your life if you let it! Last time I played (7 hour game and I was knocked out first), I was thinking about possible moves and alliances for the next 2 days. Utterly addictive

I forgot to mention the unspoken of phase. The crushing realisation that you have been betrayed/tricked, followed by the swearing, shouting and general falling out with the perpetrator (who either looks smug or a bit sheepish and apologetic)

Hehe no, that was an honest mistake! Besides, I never had any intent of making any agressive moves against anyone at the moment, not while I'm getting the hang of things :)

Yeah EG3 might kick off before EG2 even.

@alastair When you say 'actually play', do you mean the rules or using the site?
I kind of meant both, but I've now read the Rules page on the site so it's a bit clearer now.
I've also printed off that PDF doc that was linked on the first page. It's a bit 'dry' but I'm sure I'll come back to it.

Just a tip for the beginners, on the website there is a series of videos that are fairly easy to understand.

Also, does anyone want to join game 2? Pm me if you want the password
