    Quite enjoying it, wish they'd let you zoom in a bit more but that appears to be disabled but the combat is quite fun and it's looking good.

    No idea to be honest but I wouldn't have thought it could be too long.

    The combat seems pretty fun for the melee class in that usual slashing people down with your big sword way, but am a little disappointed by the mage, but then low level spell casters are always difficult to solo with.

    But from what I've been able to gather from recently reading up on it, it all seems to tally with D&D v4 and so does feel very different from Neverwinter Nights and Neverwinter Nights 2 which where based upon v3 and v3.5 respectively.

    Aren't STO lifers guaranteed beta access? And Champions Online lifers, I think. Where is my access? Bastards :p Edit - Never mind, I had access all along! I was expecting an e-mail when it was ready, but never got anything (even in my spam) so never thought to check.

    I do hope people take to the Foundry in this, my favourite thing in NWN was playing some of the incredibly inventive stuff people came up with. This could very well be the same.

    Yup you should have gotten an email from them about it last week mate!

    Yes the foundry already seems to be ticking over nicely with a fair few listed in there although I didn't get a chance to check any of them out myself.
    And I agree about the NWN player made content, it was awesome indeed.

    Ah lol you did after all!
    Well hopefully they'll be more beta weekends with which to try it out.

    To be honest I'm mostly on another beta just now, but I have to admit Neverwinter is my cup of tea. I don't really have a good old fashioned orcs 'n' swords MMO I play regularly, so it'll be nice to visit the Forgotten Realms one more. I might even skip beta and leave it all as a surprise. Then I'll join an experienced guild with a long serving member who has been in since beta at the helm. Nudge nudge, Dan ;)

    Yes a Eurogamer guild could be just the ticket. ;)

    After all the many hours I've spent on NWN yes the Forgotten Realms do feel comfortingly familiar as does Neverwinter itself especially, even though I believe it's meant to be 200 years after NWN2.

    I agree about trying to keep the surprise. I deliberately didn't do any grinding, just went far enough to get the feel of some of the different options.

    I will definitely have a go, provided it's not too grindey. You never had to do that in other D&D games, and I don't want to here.

    Indeed. And what makes it worse is that even WotC hate those rules now. Apparently the 5th edition is looking a lot more like the good old days.

    Because I'm a tool I have a Champions lifer account (worse waste of money ever) so I guess I might give this beta a go.

    Checked out some vid's after seeing this thread.The combat looked good for a magic user, seemed a little over powered for a starting character from what I saw.

    @SClaw

    In my D&D experience if there was a rule everyone thought was crap we just made something else up. When we weren't generally winging it anyway, that was!

    @Scimarad 4E didn't so much screw up the rules as much as completely screw up the tone of the game. They made it too mass market by trying to turn it into a table top MMO.

    Now you're thinking, but surely that means Neverwinter will work quite well? The issue there is that DDO (at the start) actually felt like playing table top with all hard choices intact. Here... I just worry that it's a D&D skinned WoW clone (because 4E absolutely wanted a piece of WoW's action).

    Not that I've tried the beta yet, of course. Maybe that's not the case.

    Be fair, the STO one was a stupider waste of money. If you bought that knowing what Cryptic were like after Champions, that was a case of once bitten, twice paying a large amount of money to be inevitably disappointed.

    Which reminds me, Cryptic are involved in this, and fuck those guys right in the ear. That's so disappointing, I wish it had been made by virtually any other company.

    @SClaw

    I kind of lost interest in roleplaying so I can't say I'm really familiar with what they did to the system. I do quite like what they did to the Forgotten Realms, though I can see why a lot of people wouldn't. Also, it must really have sucked to be in Maztica at the time!

    I played a bit during the weekend and in the beginning it felt pretty decent but after awhile the combat felt less fun. I don't have a problem with a limited set of skills like GW2 but in GW2 you can still swap them if you like. As far as I have seen in Neverwinter your stuck with the same skills you only get a upgrade version.

    Another think which bothers me is how they make use of the mouse. It sounds nice that you need to point the mouse where you want to fight and you don't need to tab but when you get near to a target it auto snaps on it making it feel like your tabbing anyway. And if there are a few mobs close together it still pretty hard to switch between targets. Another downside towards this is now you need to press alt if you want to unlock the mouse so you can go through the ui.

    Admittedly I haven't followed this game nor am I a D&D expert but what's going to be the big selling point for this game? Thus far I haven't encounter it. I'm still open towards it.
