Led Zeppelin or The Beatles?

Just randomly came across this article on the telegraph website.

    http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/culture/neilmccormick/100008410/are-led-zeppelin-really-the-best-band-ever/

For me it is easily zeppelin but you can't really have a straight comparison between these two great bands. Beatles were pop music, yeah sure it could be called rock but it was very commercial and uniformly loved by the main stream.

Led zeppelin were at the time, a bit mental and more on the edge and at first more underground.

I think listening now in 2013 most of zeppelins music still sounds fresh where a lot of Beatles tracks now sound dated. Also except for zeppelins final album I find all their previous ones legendary where maybe for me only half the beatles albums were great.

There are many other legendary bands, like the stones but when ever there are these large votes it always seems to end up a close vote between zeppelin and the beatles.

Great that most of the top rock bands were British! Stones, zeppelin, Beatles, Sabbath etc etc.

Beatles, for sheer versatility and consistency.

Zeppelin are great and I love them dearly but I can listen to Beatles no matter what mood I'm in.

American money and influence, though it does seem to be British bands that benefitted most.

British creative talent continues to be important. It's that one thing that almost makes me patriotic.

    Bieber or Bowie?

I was only joking of course. Everyone knows that the Stone Roses are the best band ever.

Zeppelin for me, I've never really enjoyed any of the Beatles music.

Neither! Although at least I can appreciate that bowie has talent, just not for me.

Stones roses good but long way down the greatest rock bands ever list :) .

You need to give Bowie more of a chance. For years I thought I didn't like him. Boy was I wrong.

My question was in reference to your comment about 'his death being a great day' (or similar).

Yeah, same here. Then I realised it was the 80s stuff that I didn't really like. Worked my way back through and he's one of the most versatile artists there has ever been. His ability to change and adapt is incredible.

Justin for me is the anti Christ of good music.

Currently my daughter's love the black keys. If they go down the pop route I will be most disappointed.

I only recently realised that the song 'Fascination Street' on the Liberty Rock Radio playlist in GTA4 is Bowie.

    Both.

It's like comparing two completely different things that are both fantastic.

    Zep. No competition.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to listen to Kashmir.

    J. Page said Kashmir was the best zeppelin track ever. Now personally I think it is a good song but one of their worst on the greatest hits albums. Same for stairway to heaven, another great song but not close to their best.
Shows though how great they are though.

    Zeppelin. No question.

I can appreciate the Beatles, but I love Zeppelin's music and Page has had a huge influence on my guitar playing.

For me Zep, each album is a mammoth of pure awesome sauce.

But i love the beatles too.

But floyd are my favourite. Say zeppelin are the most consistant. Infact through Led zep 1 all the way through to Prescene theres nout much wrong. So much of its sssssoooo good. Floyd pushing themselves, and just listening to the journey beatles went through is quite a joy.

Never really got into the stone roses. Love sabbath, but currently into a bit of jethro tull.
