[Note - This is a separate thread as it's a long form quiz not part of quiz chain]|
I'm putting together a game music challenge and wondered if anyone is up for taking part.
I'll upload an audio file with the tracks on.
You have to guess the game each track is from, a format it appeared on, and the year it was released (in EU).
2 points for game
1 point for format
1 point for exact year of release
1/2 point for one year out
No internet use allowed for searching answers.
If people are interested I shall upload it here later today.
Answers would be given (in spoiler hiding) as such:
1. xxxxx format 1994
2. xxxee format 1987

You could use this for ideas:
Cheers, that was one of the things that made me want to make it.
It easy enough to pull together, just wondered if people would be interested in taking part!

1: Project X, Amiga 1992
3: Super Mario Land, Gameboy 1989
15: Galaga, 360 2006
16: Outrun, Magical Sound Shower, version unknown, guessing at Megadrive 1991
17: R-Type Dimensions, stage 1, 360 2009
I think that's me done for now. Some are vaguely familiar but I couldn't name them.
Edited by Doomspoon at 22:01:26 07-03-2013
@Doomspoon both correct. I was expecting people might do them all and get a score, but either way!
Edited by RobTheBuilder at 21:29:12 07-03-2013
Sorry, typing them as I get them so may update more. I never owned an NES, MasterSystem, Megadrive or Saturn so there's possibly loads I won't get.
@Doomspoon ah ok! Guess the years and systems if you don't know and I'll give you a score at the end

Many of them sound really familiar, the only one I know is #20, which is Bridge from Sonic 1 on the Master System/Game Gear.
@ecureuil if you aren't doing any more ill tell you that was correct!
Even if I don't recognise the song it makes a nice 'background' playlist.
Yeah good job on this.
@caligari haha thanks. Ill upload full tracks another day!
2: Circus Charlie - NES - 1986
15: GALAGA - NES - 1988
22: Revenge of Shinobi - Mega Drive - 1992
So many of these sound familiar, but I just can't place them. I'm very unsure about my answers too.

@Rusty_M 1 of those games is correct (15)
I'm not marking the years yet as they are on a spreadsheet in another room!
Edited by RobTheBuilder at 22:42:35 07-03-2013
The only one I was certain of. The years were total guesses. I can never remember years. Apart from maybe 2004-2007
I'm up for doing this!
@darkmorgado Type out your replies (spoiler) and I'll mark them!
I've listened to the video, and despite considering myself something of an afficianado when it comes to VG music, I couldn't place many of them despite recognising many of them. Most of the ones I could place have been answered correctly already!
1. 4 points
3. 3 1/2 points (1990)
15. 2 points (It was an updated version not the original - Arcade 1981)
16. 3 points (right game, and it was on Megadrive, but first came out on arcade in 1986)
17. Too complex! Was just Rtype (various systems - 1987)
@darkmorgado I might do some clues tomorrow
Ah, some of my delay in updating my answers was trying to identify specifically which particular machine the music you were using came from. With 15, 16 and 17 I was comparing videos of said games on different machines before committing to an answer, hence the years I've put not matching There's a hell of a lot of difference between for arguments sake a NES version and Amiga version of the same tune I don't think I read your original post properly.
Yeah the format thing doesn't have to be exact. In most cases it's the main or first format, but any that it appeared on (not including later gen rereleases/remakes) is acceptable!
One more that I missed lastnight, really not sure on this one, just a guess...
6: Doom, various, PC first, 1993
Hmm, now not so sure I now think...
8: Doom, various, 1993 and that 6 was another title by the same team
Edited by Doomspoon at 13:38:53 08-03-2013
@Doomspoon neither correct I'm afraid. I'm going to post some clues tonight
Haha ah well.
Clues coming shortly...
