    Go team EG! :-)

I badly want a WiiU to play this but can't justify it for one game. Still, MHIV should be good, even if its at least 18 months away for us.

I keep forgetting the answer to this question - is the voice comms in the WiiU version?

do you know when I first started playing I was like WTF, in typical Jap fashion they load evrything on you instantly and expect you to have a clue what is going on, I almost gave up, as there was yellow "talk to me tabs" everywhere..

and to a degree I still dont have a clue like where the hell do you get health potions from, as that bird does not sell them!!

and then you kill your first monster (proper one) and you are like "yep, I can see now"

Then you go online and it just gets even better , and know I am hooked.

Seek out the Monster Hunter wiki site and it will explain a lot about using materials to make stuff.
Also, recrayon posted a useful list in this here thread.

The sheer amount of information can be quite overwhelming if you are starting out and look at a guide, thats why other players are a better way to learn. A lot of stuff you can just buy in bulk in the city once cash is no longer a problem (probably once you hit the 2-star quests)- dung bombs, bomb casings, hot and cold drinks, farcasters, that kind of thing.

Really you only need to know a dozen or so common combos for potions and traps and tranqs to get you through the 1 and 2 star quests, everything else you can learn just by picking something in your item box and seeing what it combines with. If you only have one of it, it probably isn't common enough that you can mass-produce anything with it anyway.

I completed the online and offline campaigns and the total healing items I used that were better than a mega potion must have been half a dozen or so at the most, made from whatever I had spare in the box, and you can make a mega potion on the first areas you enter.

Learning to make and use the traps and tranq bombs is worth doing though, it'll save time later on and you'll be using them a lot.

/memories of team EG gathered around a trapped Deviljho, frantically lobbing tranqs at it for the few seconds we had pulled it down for!

Right, how the fuck do you find people to play with online? it seems dead!
  • Deleted user 27 March 2013 20:04:58
Sounds like you're in the wrong place. You need to talk to the cat at the dock and select "Network Mode". From there you choose your server and lobby. There are loads of people online.

For 3ds version, is it possible to set controls the way you like? At least with CPP it would be nice to change the settings the way you like, as you can change onscreen information quite freely as well. Cannot find the option anywhere.

I feel sad that there isn't online option for 3ds. Going alone isn't too fun, although the game has promise.

How you get those NPC characters to fight alongside you, do you unlock them in some point or how do I recruit them?

Have just finished the most basic missions and got first proper (one star) monster hunting missions. Failed miserably. Time to do some googling I suppose...

You get the companions a bit later on, you need to unlock them. It starts off a bit of a grind, but when it clicks it's very addictive, you just have to watch the monsters carefully and learn the moves.

Gah managed to play 15 hours of this in a week without realising it. Finding this version a lot more forgiving than the wii version and I'm onto the three star missions with only a few hiccups along the way. Only issue I have is that the text is horrible on the 3ds

Just bought this for WiiU and 3ds so feel free to add my NNID for hunting.

Does anyone know if I can play with both online so my girl can play too? I've reading conflicting things.

@JiveHound The 3DS one will hook up to the Wii U via the port you visit.

Now have this for Wii U and 3DS; slowly becoming addicted.

Tried linking up the 3ds and Wii U last night but failed miserably. We managed to meet in the tavern but when we depart on a quest we get separated.

Anyone know what I need to do? I can't find anything online that helps.

Once a quest has been selected other players need to join via the notice board, then hit confirm at the gate to enter "ready" status. Then you're good to go.

@JiveHound I believe there is some horribly convoluted process that allows the 3DS to go online via the Wii U.

Just had my first taste of this via the demo on wii u. My goodness it's... Hard. Are there any indicators to how well you're doing against an enemy, a life gauge or anything or just in their change of behaviour?

Couldn't really figure out the controls either, seemed like each button didn't a multitude of things. Quite enjoyed it though whilst at the same time guessing I probably would really struggle with the full game.

Can you dip in an out of online? Is it the same as questing alone, as in does it progress your single player quest?

Progress can been seen when monsters start drooling and limping. It can take a little while, but it's indication that you're at least half way there.

First go at Barroth tonight on multiplayer, one on 3DS and other on WiiU. Nearly got him. Felt like my bow gun was pretty ineffective against him though.

@binky full game leads you in fairly nicely, you don't even face a real monster until a few hours in

    @Cid

    Thankyou, I'll try that.

Also, has anyone tried the data transfer yet? I can't get it too work. It seems to want me to delete my girlfriend's save on the 3ds before I transfer my file from the WiiU. I tried the process from her 3ds file to WiiU but I got the same prompt.

Can I not transfer my file and maintain her file? There are three slots. Am I just missing something obvious?

At first the constant interruptions are aggravating but it does a good job of teaching you the basics. I haven't taken on a monster yet and I'm quite enjoying its sedate pace.

Managed to do a quest with my bird. One mission in fighting a massive honey badger when neither of us had tackled any proper monsters previously was pretty exciting.

Fair to say we're now hooked. I can't believe I've never played a Monster Hunter before. To be fair I never had the required system before.

Anyone know how to accept gifts? I go throught the animation but my girlfriend can't accept it.
