You can do all the rank 1 online stuff in pretty basic gear so long as you potions.

Rank 2 you'll need to be thinking about elements and the 'right' gear I've found

Trying the 3DS demo, um how do you move the character, move the camera and attack all at the same time? I don't have 3 hands!

    If you don't have the circle pro thing then yeah, i imagine that's shitty. else;

If you use the right stick the camera turns with you.

If you use te left stick only the character moves

If you tap the left bumper if will relock the camera behind the hunter.

If you have a monster locked and tap it then the camera will shift to focus on the beast.

@shamblemonkee Cheers for that. I wont be too hasty with my first online game then!

As for the camera issues that folk be talkin' about, I find that even with the Wii U game I use the L button to center the camera more often than I use the right analog stick. It's much quicker I think. It's just a shame swimming is a challenge in itself, without a 2nd analog stick/circle pad.

Don't forget that off-screen play is being added to this over the next day apparently.

I like that it will allow me to play while freeing up the tv for mrs shambles.

I don't remember what the demo is like, but in the full version you can add a digital d-pad on the touch screen if you want to do something like that.

Though you should keep in mind, Monster Hunter isn't the type of game where you need to do that. If you lose track of where the monster is, a quick re-centering will often do.

ZR switches lock mode on and off, then L centres on the monster instead of behind you. This only works for the big monsters though - you can put a pane into the touchscreen which shows you when they're active, as well as allowing you to select which monster you want to focus on in the case of multiple monsters.

Ah, cheers. I'd missed that and just been using the left shoulder button after locking on via the touchscreen.

Used to play the Wii version an awful lot with some of you guys from EG. Figured I oughta come back to see if you had any MH3U stuff going on?
Any EG rooms that you guys populate often? It used to be something like the last world on the list and then lobby 10.

I have never played a Monster Hunter game before, and have just got this on the 3DS. Oh god oh god oh god what do I do.

Do you guys team up on a regular basis? Are there some monsters that are only really killable in a group? It's all completely new to me.

You can't team up on the 3DS, isn't it only local multiplayer? The image of grown men sitting in a room together all playing Monster Hunter on their 3DS is somehow frightening to me.

    Get bent.

I may venture online for the first time today.

    Freaking loving it so far.

How many quest tiers in sp are there? It's showing five but the game is supposed to be massive.

Well you have 5 more tiers online, which you can also do by yourself in offline mode. Not sure if there are more than that, yet.

There are nine quest levels in the village. 1-5 are low rank, 6-9 are high.

In the port you have eight quest levels. 1-2 are low, 3-5 are high and 6-8 are G.

Thanks, I knew there had to be more if people are putting in 300 odd hours.

I killed me a shed load of monsters yesterday including making the Lagiwassamathing my bitch.

Does anyone want to start a regular hunt? I feel like I've got a handle on what's going on now.

47hrs in to my first MH - totally addictive. I have never played a game where you get such a great sense of achievement.

Still in the village, Lagiacrus mission has appeared. Just captured a Royal Ludroth and have a full set of Wroggi gear including the sword - I'm like some sort of poison sword wielding cowboy.

@JiveHound I would love to organise something, but i'm currently playing through the game with a friend who moved to Canada, at ridiculous times in the morning. :/

I sold this on ebay yesterday. Got almost what I paid for it. Although the game looks good, I can't accept that with an upgraded version of a Wii game, they didn't even give proper analogue camera controls. I find that really pathetic....

3 preset levels of vertical camera control and binary left and right swinging camera. That is just plain wrong.

It's fun, but for full retail price I expect a hell of a lot more.

    (Wii U version)

Define works fine. Is left and right panning analogue? Nope.
Can you change vertical camera to more than 3 angles? Nope.

I find that archaic. Winds me up.

I'm not saying it's broken. I'm saying I expect it to work better given we're 2013. Twin analogue camera controls have been around a long time. You've got exactly the same camera controls as you had on the PSP on the Wii U. The right stick could be replaced with a control pad and it would make no difference.

I find that a bit rubbish that's all. It's not a game breaker, but it annoys me.
