That isn't a 'kids'' tablet? Budget around 200, for a 6 year old. I guess the main thing would be the ability to create properly locked down login accounts

    Calpol.

I lurk. If I've spoken to you, I'm either impassioned, or drunk.

I don't have one but they seem quite robust too.

Nexus is also a candidate but I think that's a bit pricey for a kids tablet. It's bound to get some stick.

249 for iPad mini. My 6 year old nephew got one for Christmas, and what with the 20 iTunes voucher I got him and a stack of free apps, he's set for life.

He's properly hooked on MineCraft, too. That game grabs kids in a way I'll never understand.

Actually Minecraft is a very good point. The pocket version is very feature rich now and it's so creative and limitless. So if the Fire doesn't run that, it could be a problem.

I'd buy something cheap, as it's going to get broken/lost/ignored in the very near future.

You can get this Android 'touch pad' from The Carphone Warehouse for 49, according to Hotukdeals:

We got a Nabi 2 for our youngest at Christmas, to try and wean him off our iPads.

Hardware-wise, it's not far off a Nexus 7, but is a bit chunkier, so you can drop it without worry.

Out the box, the apps are a bit restricted- the standard poorly designed educational tosh that kids aren't interested in.

But you can root it and install the Google App Store - so he now can get anything on Android - iPlayer, Subway Surfers etc.

Actually ignore this, if she's six probably too old - iPad Mini will do the job!

Funny, I've come to notice he never watches TV, any programmes he watches are all on demand on tablets...

You could get a chinese one with dual-core and IPS for about 70 or less including delivery. It'd take ages to deliver though.

I've decided to give a wee packet of tablet to any of our customers ordering more than 200 as a wee thank you - clearly I have to get samples to check the quality from a variety of suppliers!

It's piling up in the office...and it's all lovely :)

    200 for a kids tablet?
I bought 2 of these for 150 and they do the job as good as any 200+ tablet

Picked up one of these at xmas for my 8 year old girl for 99. Seperate kids mode and parent mode. Easy to lock kids mode right down and a decent enough 7" droid tab when its in parent mode, no worse than any archos or similarly priced kit.

Ive got both and there are so many more apps of such superior quality on the ipad its not even funny and for a kid that age the depth and breadth of apps is vital or else what's the point of even buying it?

New iPad minis out in March apparently, I'd imagine you'd pick up a 1st gen for sub 200. My daughter (2.5) loves hers, in moderation natch.

Give yourself 5 or gig, you're worth it.

I'd have to agree with this. Stuff like Toca Boca, not there. Even stuff like 5 On Demand (aka the Peppa Pig App), which you would expect to be on Android, just aren't for some reason.

Judging by what I've seen from my friends' kids I'd recommend not purchasing anything you can't afford to replace on average at least twice per kid and per five years.
They will break the things that frequently, it is pretty much set in stone.

And don't think you'll get away with not buying them a new one once they've had a pad and broken it. I've witnessed the drama involved... o_O

I believe there are 'plans' to bring the toca boca stuff to android but nothing as yet. At the moment our iPad is the toca boca machine. Fair play, they are brilliant at what they do. A genuine 'day one' when I see a new app on the store.
