Dunno, what if Mandela's ex-wife shot him in a similar fashion., I'd imagine it would be even bigger news.

I think the thread title is pretty poor tbh, call him blade runner, sure, but using legless just looks like you were trying to think of a funny quip imo.
Listen, you stick to regular celebrity death threads, Deckard gets the celebrity disabled murderer threads, ok.

I just checked The Sun and the initial story was gone and replaced with Pistorius in court.... but sure enough, click the article and there Steenkamp is in a bikini again amongst photos of Oscar in court that I haven't seen elsewhere.

If the legs don't fit you must acquit

It's obviously inappropriate but as she was a professional model I don't really feel all the indignation is warranted. If she had a normal job and they had searched Facebook for a bikini picture and put it in the front page then that would be a bit different.

She'd just been shot dead FFS! Can they not have a modicum of decorum, just for once? Even if it was just for the front page.

I dunno. I'm no supporter of the Sun, and I'm sure they did this from the basest of motives, but I don't see the massive issue in using a professional picture of a model. After all, if a male surfer got shot, it wouldn't be surprising to see him topless (and I doubt anyone would complain).

    Anyway, it's all terribly sad.

His point was that the other chap's legs didn't conform to regulations or something.

Guilty or not, what he's achieved in a sporting sense is pretty amazing. If you can't see that, you're a fucking idiot.

I'm in two minds about this, on one hand you could see it as campaigning for more widespread acceptance of people with disabilities which is commendable. On the other, it sort of removes the clear boundary between the Olympic and Paralympic athletes, making the Paralympics appear like a lower division - but if you're good enough you can race with the "real" athletes.

That Brazilian gold medallist dispute was, I think, to do with the blade length. You have to use a certain length depending on your height, and the claim was that the Brazilian was using the maximum allowable length available to him giving him an advantage over Pistorius who had been using a shorter blade and had no time to get used to a longer one for a speed advantage. This claim went totally against his campaigning that blades couldn't give any advantage in any way over another athlete, which is how he was allowed to compete in the Olympics.

Indeed; there were two different standards for the calculations, I believe, and the Olympics were using the standard that allowed longer blades. Pistorius was using the shorter one so as to compete in other competitions through the year.

When he was beaten he was all "waa waa no fair his robot legs were better than mine"; when he wanted to compete with non-cyborgs in the Olympics he was all "robot legs give no advantage and it's not fair of you to exclude me, you big bunch of dirty excluders".

It's regarding the length of the blade in proportion to the rest of their body. You can work out how tall someone would be if they had legs by measuring other limbs and working out the ratio.

The Brazilian bloke was using longer blades than usual but they were still within the limits set by the Olympic Committee i'd heard.

So he went against the spirit of the rules i suppose.

    This signature intentionally left blank.

Pistorius came off as a massive prima-donna over that. How dare someone beat me, they must be cheating. I wouldn't be surprised if that superego of his had a lot to do with what's happened here.

    @Psychotext

i think it was certainly a sign that this 'calm, gentle' character as associates described him had a darker side.
