Got a Blackberry Z10 a few days back and I have to say I'm very impressed. The interface is easy to use the unit has a nice premium feel and the software is smooth and stable.

If you had told me I would feel this way a month ago I'd have called you a liar. At work at least half of all the software resets I do are Blackberry and I haven't recommended one for years but this time seems different. I think it's because they've finally given up on Java which has been holding them back.

Either way I feel like I can now recommend a Blackberry as a fourth option to sit alongside iOS, Android and WP8 and I think they deserve some success from it.

I don't know whether to take the traffic in this thread as an indication of future success of the new BB phones. I have now also jumped away from the big 2 and am on WP8. I have now decided that for me personally, more than the OS, is the availability of apps that I use. That is what makes me upset that I went WP8.

No Barclays, no Flipboard, no Dropbox, gimped Facebook, crap Twitter, no orientation lock for entire phone. If my W8 had those, I would never move. As it is, come January '14, I will finally try Android.

Yep. Basically, those are the considerations. If those apps are not on WP8, or Blackberry for that matter, I am jumping to Android.

I have to use a Blackberry for work and while I admit it's an older one those dinky little keyboards are a hateful experience.

Somewhere there's a salesman feeling VERY fucking smug (and rich) right now:

Someone bought 1,000,000 BlackBerry Z10 smartphones

From selling 1m Blackberry handsets (to presumably to the US government), to being branded not secure enough for the UK Government, for the most secure of documents.

    Poor Blackberry.

The latest Blackberry 10.2.1 update is out now. The most interesting thing it brings is the ability to directly install Android apps or .apk files

It all works really well, especially if you use a Google Play replacement such as 1mobile.com which you can install as an app, and there's no emulation of any kind involved as BB10 has always had an android kernel embedded in it somewhere.

Doubt this is much use to anyone but it's livened up my work phone a bit.
