It's also fairly old... think I first saw it a few years ago. Still pretty clever though.

Did Rob Manuel co-edit the Grauniad today? http://www.theguardian.com/science/brain-flapping/2013/sep/20/video-games-cause-violence-claims-cause-violence

A strange game. The only winning move is not to play.

Names with the /a:/ sound - such as Barbara or Charlotte - are pretentious and the individual inflicted with it will grow up to be a twat.

First weekend in my new flat and as sad as it is with lats nights at work the first day I open the curtains for the living room and the entire fucking thing collapses. Entire curtain rail is on the floor. Very high ceilings and no ladder here or tools so this is fucking smashing.

I just found out that Samuel West is older than Dominic West (no relation), which I found very surprising. I still think of Samuel West as being the upcoming generation, as his dad is still performing, whereas Dominic came to my attention already mature.

Granted, not interesting. Just personally surprising.

Cold bathrooms can be interesting. When sometimes your foreskin is so tightly packed that it swells before the piss goes out actually.

edit: and no, by cold I don't mean room temperature.

Went out for a few drinks Friday evening, got in and propped myself up at the bar and shortly after the barmaid arrived:

Me: Could I have a pint of Peroni and a G&T please
BM: Sorry, a pint of Peroni and what sorry?
    Me: A G&T, single
BM: I'm sorry I don't know what that is....is it Gin?
    Me: Yes, with tonic
BM: Oh OK, I've never heard it called that
Me: Are you new to barwork?
BM: No I've worked here for a while now

    .......

Fucks sake! It was a pleasant conversation, I tried not to come across as patronising with that final question, it was taken in good humour. I was just amazed.

I'd have assumed you meant a Gin and Tea. No milk, obviously, just black tea with Gin. Excellent breakfast drink, that.

Not really, of course. I can understand not having heard it before (I've never heard anyone order it like that around here, at least), but surely once she figured out the Gin part, the rest is easy to deduce?

That's what was particularly baffling, she had managed to deduce the gin part eventually, I mean there aren't many drinks that it could infer - but still didn't hazard a guess as tonic being the accompaniment!

I certainly wouldn't invite her to join any sort of quiz team. She gets asked "What common drink is sometimes referred to as a G&T? Here's a clue: Gin and....", to which she shouts "TARANTULA!" and feels really smug about it as her Carer nods reassuringly at her.

Maybe a bit harsh there, but she's not here :p

GoT is seriously good isn't it.

Kind of annoyed I didn't read the books first.
I think the TV series is better overall than the books tbh - probably from having more people involved to put in suggestions for what would make a better story. Effectively, he gets to tweak the story for a better visual effect. The Arya/Tywin stuff and the Red Wedding are two examples of things significantly improved on by the TV show.

So don't feel bad you didn't read the books first. If anything, they *might* spoil the TV show for you. A bit. But not much.

This is the first time I mentioned 'em, I think - I stayed out of... THAT thread. 'cos the book fans are curiously overzealous.

I am reading the books currently, having only seen series 1 and 2 so far. I am finding the experience great on so many levels, as the first 2 books merge with the series and I have the actors faces in mind when reading.

On to the 2nd book of Storm of Swords and its fucking amazing. Will bash right on with the rest, which is also worth noting I for for 3.85 each from Asda....

    Ah fuck!

Looks like we might have had an electric piano stolen.

That's what you get for showing some goodwill and trying to help out friends of friends.

So if you lend something to someone and they don't return it and they stop responding to your attempts to contact them, is that theft or a civil matter?

Anyone know if I can even go to the small claims court when I suspect the person lives in Paris?

Maybe easier if you explain what happened rather than talking in riddles.
A friend of a friend needed an electric piano? You lent it to them and they've since moved to Paris?

Get onto the friend. Tell him to badger their friend on your behalf.

Two chavvy types were in the game section of Sainsbury's yesterday, I overheard this exchange:

chav 1: Last copy of GTA, sweet!

Chav 2: What's that? (points at the GTA V official game guide underneath)

Chav 1: That's the manual innit.

Chav 2: Ah right, I remember when they were free.

    Chav 1: Yeah mate.
