Registered 7 years agoI think what's most amazing about all of this is that there's still a working 360 that doesn't have HDMI.
That thing belongs in a museum! -
My daughter's 3rd birthday is next month, and as I look through a list of presents we're considering getting her - and it's stuff she's actually asked for - I ponder one thing:
I was determined she wasn't going to be one of these girls who dresses all in pink, who is obsessed with Disney Princesses, who doesn't fall in to the stereotype of your standard little girl. I've guided her and encouraged her to find her own way even at this still very young age... How did she end up becoming obsessed with Rapunzel and Cinderella? How did she come to ask for a Rapunzel dress and a Princess bag?
She does love those princesses.Follow me on Twitter: @MrTom

Registered 10 years agoSounds like you did your bit and have a little girl with an independent mind... who has decided she likes princesses all on her own. You've got a good kid there.gif)
Have a great party!
Anyway, fairy tales are steeped through our culture. We've got castles bloody everywhere for a start. This signature intentionally left blank.

Eh, it just seemed whenever I saw a little girl dressed as a princess they were a spoilt, entitled brat

Registered 10 years agoI don't think there is much escaping it tbh. It's all consuming, whether TV or clothes, toys etc. -

Registered 4 years agoThis is the thing; you can do your best to try and instil non-disney-princess values in her but there's always gonna be TV, school friends, the internet etc etc that might make her see these things to be what she should be interested in.
To be honest; I'm not a parent myself but my Mum was similarly inclined as she was a pretty forward thinking social worker who I remember buying my nieces things like train sets and cars as presents but then my Sister would discourage them from playing with them! (Grrr)
Both nieces now have an unassailable love of pink girly things even now, but the point is to try and give them balance and show them that they (girls and boys that is) shouldn't automatically follow the cliches and to think for themselves and to decide their own tastes, not what peer groups tell them to.

Registered 11 years agoJust because she loves the princess stuff at that age, doesn't mean she will do later. My sister went down that route as a kid, but is certainly not that way inclined now. Don't worry about it now. Worry about it if she's twenty and acting like a bitch. -

Registered 3 years agoOur daughter was also really into the princesses at three. We still have the Disney dresses in the wardrobe. Then she went though a goth phase around six (we have a goth neighbour who babysit a couple of times...) She is now eight and, much as we discourage it, she seems determined to try to dress like Kei$ha...
Seems like we are all pretty much born as our own little independent people from day one. Our parents will try to guide us on the right path as much as they can can. But we are going to decide what we want for ourselves... the sterotypes that we are confirming to this week may well be those we reject tomorrow... -
