Online PGR2 in the pacific muscle class was brilliant back in the day. I used to love using the RX7 against all the Scoobys and Evos. It got eaten up on the straights but the cornering was just sublime.

Registered 2 years agoI got my first Xbox live sub for PGR2. Still unmatched online. M3 races round Edinburgh Castle were epic.
I'll glady pay £500 for PGR5 and Just Cause 3 next-gen launch combo. -

Yep, so good.
PGR 2 is the pinnacle of the genre in my opinion as well.
That was the last racing game I could hold my own with the best. How my skills have dropped. PGR2 just felt right in everyway. Always knew the limits and could push it so far with great feedback. -

Registered 6 years agoPGR4 is still a great game, I remember some of my earliest Xbox 360 Live battles on there. A lap round the Green Hell, on bikes, fixed cameras to cockpit. A Challenge Accepted and completed. -

Registered 5 years agoThe amount of hours I spent playing cat and mouse on PGR 3&4 where amazing fun, if this does turn out to be a launch title then I'd be seriouly be tempted to pick up both this and the 720 on day one.

I always thought it was more to do with Live becoming more popular shortly after, with much better gamers jumping online to kick my arse.
Loved it while it lasted. -

Registered 6 years agoPGR2 was my first Live game. Amazing.
PGR 3 had its moments, and 4 was absolutely wonderful too. But PGR2 was the pinnacle for me. -
Gonna make an effort to dig out PGR4 for the weekend now.

Now if they could convince DiCE to make a new RSC I'd probably get on with making a time machine instead of playing PGR4.

Registered 8 years agoHope they make some changes to the formula, perhaps go for a Midnight Club LA style, open world city with different races and full car customization. There's a severe shortage of decent street racer games, Midnight club LA being the only one I can think of off the top of my head. Always thought forza horizon would be better placed in a vast city rather than a vast desert. -
I absolutely fucking loved PGR2, it's my favourite for sure.
An authentic sequel would certainly be enticing. -

Registered 6 years agoMSR/PGR2 are joint top the best racing games I've ever played. Not just because of the style of racing, that was a lot of fun. Specifically why I think those games are so great is the soundtrack and the tracks, more specifically the cities. Each city had a real atmosphere to them and it was because, I feel, those cities had radio stations playing music that was native to that country e.g. Stockholm would play bands from Sweden, Yokohama bands from Japan etc. Even the DJ's spoke in the native tongue. To me, that really made me feel good to come back and play it, because racing games to me aren't necessarily about the cars, it's about the tracks. And while PGR4 probably had the best gameplay of the series, a lot of what made that series special was lost when they had this generic soundtrack where you could listen to any song at any time.
MSR went a step even further by basing the day/night settings of the tracks be set upon the Dreamcast's internal clock, so if you were playing at 12PM on London it would be the daytime in the track, but if you drove in Tokyo next, it would be 8PM their time, and so you would be driving at night. It can be a bit gimmicky sure, but I loved that. I'm amazed no other game has done that, not even PGR.
It's wishful thinking, but I hope PGR5 brings those elements back. -

As good as MSR was, it's really not better than anything in the actual PGR series now.
PGR1 deserves to be so high simply for running at 60fps. -

Registered 6 years agoMSR was better at one thing, real-time time of day. The awe as a I watched the sun setting in my game and out my window at the same time still stays with me today. pointless but wicked. -

Registered 10 years agoThe only thing I liked more about MSR than the others was the fact that your Kudos reset if you fucked a race up. It made every race very tense and meaningful.
The day/night thing was a bit of a silly gimmick imho. Got annoying if you could only ever play games at one time of day. -

Let's just hope Microsoft aren't stupid enough to include an anti-used game system... the idea of another PGR is far more attractive to me than anything announced on PS4 so far.
