  Legend of Zelda
  Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
  Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
  Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
  
  Each game is essentially a remake of the first.
  
  The other games, even the likes of Windwaker, are just gaiden.

  Well Twilight Princess was a tired retread of Ocarina so that can be discounted. In terms of story, they've all been pretty much the same schtick.

  The only thing i'll say is that after reading the Hyrule Historia, TP and LoZ/LTTP sit in different timelines, so doesn't that make TP a side-story too?

  Quite frankly if Link: Faces of Evil, Zelda: Wand of Gamelon and Zelda's Adventure aren't considered canon then I'm done with the series.

  I always wondered why there was a 'legend of zelda', unless the legend was 'silly tart who keeps getting kidnapped'.

  They all seem the same to me.
  I probably shouldn't be in this thread, but frankly I can't understand this obsession of the West with the Zelda franchise. I don't see why this should be THE ultimate gaming experience of all time.
