Am I missing something here? Not sure why everyone is collapsing in a fit of laughter.
Whole thread should just be this.

Ok just checking. I think it is still likely that your sense of humour is within one standard deviation of the average video game forum-goer.

Interesting how Sony said not long back that they "dont like to go first, we'll let Microsoft go first" and then they announce this.

Do Microsoft now do something similar to steal their thunder, or do they wait for Sony to do their thing then hit them on the counter attack?

"The worst part is, I'll have to have the break-up sex with myself!"

It'll be interesting to see if they blink.

Tomorrow: "Microsoft press conference announced, February 19th!"

    @Ultrasoundwave

The sewage works near Microsoft's games divisions all noted normal sewage flow from Microsoft's buildings before the announcement of the 20th's presser.

Subsequently, it has been reported that a huge rise was seen for just one hour, with a whole week's discharge hitting the can. Since then, it seems like they are on full lock down with all bathroom breaks cancelled for 20 days. Sewage plants still monitoring confirm they haven't seen any discharge since.

    @roz123

    +1 :)

That gif and the love shown for it, and resulting refusal to explain, just about sums up the EG forum :)

So, when do MS announce then? E3?

I bet they didn't see this coming although the new XBox may well still come out first.

The Resident Evil films. I'm one of the reasons they keep making them.

Paying attention to those comments is basically a waste of time. Pure PR speak.

It's not like they can choose when Microsoft announces. What are they going to do, announce after it's released if Microsoft holds off?

Hmm could be due to other variables. Maybe it's a cultural difference.

I'm guessing March, similar to the time when the 360 was revealed (by Elijah Wood on MTV no less)

    Maybe around GDC

Kind of getting the feeling that unless either Sony or Microsoft do something completely leftfield my next gen is going to end up being a Steam box of some sort.

@Popzeus - I feel the same. I'm disappointed already and nothing has been announced! :D

I think I'm more interested in the discussion. Hopefully one of them will offer more than upgraded visuals.

@ronuds Same here, I'm definitely interested but might only be as an observer this gen. High-end Steam boxes might be too tempting to resist by the end of the year.

For me the most interesting factor is price.

Going by Sony's PS3 ludicrously expensive launch price, the Wii U's obscene RRP, the liklihood it'll have some form of expensive in-built gadgetry (I call a tablet controller!), and the current economic climate, then I suspect it's going to be pretty jaw-droppingly expensive.

I'm worried we might hit the new high of around 650-700.

What are you expecting these Steam boxes to cost? I don't think they will be subsidized by publishers the way Sony and Microsoft subsidize their boxes.

It feels like the first few years are when the new consoles are the best value, since the components are relatively new. I'll jump back on the PC train when the generation is getting a bit stale. 2009, for me, was the best year for PS3, and I started really longing for PC games by 2011.

I don't think there's any chance of that whatsoever. It'll be cheaper than the PS3 was at launch IMO. The PS3's price was a mistake enough, and one I don't think they'll repeat again. I don't see a tablet controller happening, and that's what's driving up the price of the Wii U.

    a)WiiU doesn't have an RRP
b)It'll be nowhere near that price, I say 399-449 max.

PS3 has expensive (at the time) Blu-Ray Player as well as Cell architecture.
This time they're using moderate, less power hungry, more standard components and are sticking with HDDs (it seems).
    It shouldn't be particularly expensive.

I hope it is around that price, and it probably will be. I'd consider getting one at launch at that pricepoint.

However I just can't shake that fear that a shock is incoming. Console makers have a habit of not learning from past mistakes after all.

In the current climate anything over 400 would be suicide, especially when there's a roguish competitor waiting in the wings to undercut you by 50 as soon as everyone starts squealing.

In fact, I'd probably go as far as to suggest that 350 is the absolute maximum RRP or they may as well not bother and spend the money on Creme Eggs instead.
