Where is this supposed to fit in? Is it an endorsement or a criticism? Is it belittling the OP for asking advice about whether to install a new operating system? And if so, why? Asking if he should update his OS seems to me like a perfectly reasonable question to ask if there's a chance the update will not be to his liking.
For fuck's sake it's an operating system -

Why pay 25 pound when you can pay 15? http://www.windowsupgradeoffer.com/en-GB
I went through that site in November, picked a random Dell PC as the one I had just 'bought' and they sent me the download link no problems..gif)

I'd be interested in knowing what that's like too - CCC has a mind of its own.

Just put in that you bought a Dell from a few months ago. It doesn't ask for a key to validate then. Certainly didn't for me.captainrentboy wrote:

Then again, as I upgraded from Vista, everything seems nice and quick in comparison.
Is there an easy way to bypass the tiley metro side of it and just have a standard desktop? Admittedly I've only spent about 10 minutes messing around with it so far. I'm sure I'll get used to it. -

Registered 2 years agoI quite like the new interface but it's pretty much pointless in terms of functionality.
The mail client is pretty cool.

Registered 4 years agoSo i thought give the £14.99 deal a go (i may or may not of lied to microsoft) as figured never know when might want to change in future.
Anyway thoughts, on first glance yes i totally agree with all the moaning about tablet interface and how doesnt work with tradional pcs. However after some fiddling i am actually navigating it faster than i ever did with 7, i have not installed any tricks/shells etc just a few simple changes like i have assigned my macro keys on my keyboard. Iam using a Logitech G110 keyboard.
Now when i press G12 it brings up the search, or pressing G4 closes the current app/program as otherwise you just end up with tons suspended programs and G6 opens the charms bar. Yes these are simple in 7 but i just didn't utilize them, one might say 8 is a failure if have to find 'ways' to get around it but i rather think of it as just relearning. Regards general speed, well i was running on SSD anyway so isnt much faster but parts of it feel snappier also helps i have dual monitors.
The reason for the upgrade was because i fancy trying out Windows Phone 8 and so want to see how they integrate, otherwise i probably wouldn't of bothered. It is not a massive upgrade or anything as was perfectly happy with 7 but for £14.99 its worth a go and i advise others the same its worth a shot. After all can always go back to 7 later down the road. But so far all happy, and either way got to put up with XP at work.
edit: To get the £14.99 you need an OEM key, which most of self builders probably have anyway. If you have retail key it wont work but doesnt seam age of the license matters.
