i just bought a mixer, imported from the US, so want to check before i blow it up!

do i need some sort of step-down transformer for the voltage, or will a normal 2-pin to 3-pin adaptor do?

also, option B... would it be possible to re-wire the plug completely?

You just need to tie a knot in the wire, that works too.

There should be a rating plate on there somewhere with the input voltage and max amps. I don't know what the US power supply is so check that first. If it is about 240v then you could wire a UK plug on to it. Make sure you have the right fuse in it though. If it is a 3A thing don't leave a 13A fuse in the plug,. Make sure you wire it properly too. I have numerous DIY electricians wiring the live or neutral in to the earth and then complaining that there kit is only running at half speed.
    If that fails..... FIUTA.
(obviously substituted 'him/her' with 'it' before anyone complains that I got it wrong.

Chances are you'll need a step down converter to reduce the UK power from 240 volts to 120 volts.

It's possible the unit will state it takes 120-240 volts and you're okay but it's unlikely. Unless it states that it'll fry.

Sad to see so few people ever imported a US console.

You can only plug it into the bathroom shaver socket.

And then throw it into the bath.

    And then get in.

if you have nothing intresting to say then you might as well just throw your bags on the truck and drive away

I have a vocal rack unit that I bought in the US. I use it with a step down converter. Works fine. Approach rewiring plugs with extreme caution.

You may find it simpler to put a US plug socket on the wall for using your mixer.

Also, what kind of mixer? Sound mixers are a no no, but if you plug a 120v food mixer into a 240v power supply you'll have the added benefit of it mixing at twice the speed, saving valuable time in the kitchen.

On that note, all it'll do is play your 33rpms at 78.

Why are you checking if you're going to blow it up anyway?

Give yourself ½ gig or a £, you're worth it.

These days? No, but I had an old clock that would run 20% faster on 60Hz than on 50 (assuming it would even start at 110V). Everything these days contains a power supply between it and the internal gubbins, and especially if everything internal runs off DC, you can ignore the Hz.

At this point it would be great to know the make and model so someone can google it and tell him what the numbers mean.

You can't run a US appliance ona UK plug. It was the 4th most common reason for non fatal house fires in the UK from 1980-1997 inclusive.

You can hook it up to a generator though, most people are using one of these.

it's cool, managed to cancel that shit. more bother than it's worth.

what about a european device? looking at a german site.

i think they use 2-pin, but still 240v. is that right?

what in this case? a simple 2 to 3-pin adapter?

Same with mixers. All of the music he puts through it will sound like the chipmunks.

Because its a non essential safety precaution, all an earth wire does is go to the actual ground under your mobile home as a preferable path of least resistance than your body. Also, In Germany, they've never had to deal with anyone like you before and any that do slip through the net are left to blow themselves up by means of natural selection.

I liked my dad's home-made european-to-uk adapter. Plug it into the two normal holes, shove a screwdriver in the earth. That's literally all the adapters do anyway.

You can do something similar for a US adaptor, except you shove the screwdriver into the lower right hole.

    Do that, anthonypappa.

i think you should just go back to giving technical expertise... cause you're not funny. give up.

anyone know any cheap UK online stores selling dj equipment for a DJM700S?

cheapest i can find is £740 inc tax and delivery.

it was £640 all in from the US store, and £690 all in at the EU store.

654 on amazon you thick scrote.

Why the fuck are you getting that anyway? There are far cheaper mixers around that do the same thing and I can't believe for a moment you're actually a professional at anything.
