    So, new Biffy album.

I'm enjoying it so far. I'll need a fair few more plays before I can compare it to Puzzle, though.

    Anyone else heard it?

I stopped listening after the first three albums (which I pretty much adored, especially Vertigo of Bliss) due to them becoming rather bland and shit.

There's the odd decent song now and again (Living is a Problem, Semi-Mental etc) but they've definitely entered genericville.

Will this album change my mind?

Are Biffy Clyro the band whose lead singer won X Factor a couple of years back?

@GuiltySpark I wouldn't like to say, really. I haven't finished my first listen yet, so I'm hardly in a position to properly judge.

It has some interesting moments. Not as many cool instrumental sections though. :/

If you had told me back in high school that there would be a Biffy Clyro song on X-Factor, let alone be the X-Factor single, I'd have probably stabbed you; I went to a rough high school.

the xfactor move was genius, i a friends with ben and james and they were rather pleased with the xfactor thing as they won either way, with thier single being bought again to try beat xfactor to number one it looked that either their single was going to be number one and the xfactor cover second or vice versa. Means they got he sales from their and a ton of royalties from the xfactor cover. Not gave the new album a listen yet though.

I would hardly say you have to be a genius to accept a fuckload of money, even if that means your song has to feature on one of the most offensive shows to music that there is.

But by that point they had hit the mainstream anyway, so it was only a matter of time.

Whiney generic shite singing in an annoying American accent. WTF is wrong with keeping your own accent?

Anyone who listens to them should be punched in the ovaries.

@FWB I presume you're not on about Biffy right? Seeing as they sound very fucking Scottish.

Second listen, I do think the second disc is better, but I'm also really loving 'The Fog' from the first disc...very atmospheric.

It's an improvement on 'Only Revolutions' though, that's for sure.

Hmmm. Hard to say. It's different; more similar to the recent albums, but less generic...and better.

I guess it depends on what your favourite albums and songs actually are, I'm caught in the middle somewhat because I absolutely love Puzzle, but then my favourite song is probably Questions and Answers.

Edit: Rant deleted.. Really good album, actually. If you edit it down to a single disc you get their best album since Infinity Land. Hope they make good on the "this is the last of our commercial-sounding album trilogy" claims.

Don't sound Scottish at all. Whiney Yankee vocals. Rolling the Rs and changing /ɒ/ to /ɑ/. If you really can't hear it, I don't know what to say. Perhaps explains being able to stand them. I know he probably does it cos it is easier to hit the notes, but it is like having your eardrum raped by a cheese grater.

Sounds like the double CD version is the one to get. I like all their output but prefer the earlier albums.

    For the emperor!

I just started listening to this album to see if I could hear the accent. It's definitely there, I would say there's an American influence on the way it's sung but to say it doesn't sound Scottish at all is just wrong. Also found it amusing that the first track has bag pipes in it :p

Yeah i have to agree some notes simon has that american twang thing going on, but generally you can hear this normal accent through most of it.

There's definitely some good songs across the 2 discs, some seem aimed at the old guard, and others continue in the Only Revolutions direction...so I guess I should be happy enough that I've got the choice :D

You're so wrong about this. You must be mixing them up with another band, or you've never heard a Scottish accent.

Could you highlight any line in this song, randomly selected, which backs up your statement. Any example of a "rolled r" will do (although rolled Rs are quite prominent in some Scottish accents, so I'm even less sure what you're getting at).

nb I don't actually care what their accents sound like, at all, but you're so incorrect that I need to understand what's lead you to make such an incorrect statement. I'm genuinely baffled.
