my girlfriend used to just hit pause on the ps3 when she went to work, and continue playing when she got back,or leave it to me to switch off or log in.
it took me a while to convince her that saving and switching off is a better option.
anybody have habits that are not conducive to hardware longevity?

My wife has the bad habit of trying to hold a conversation with me when I'm.gaming. You'd think she'd learn.

Switch the PS3 off and blame it on a power outage.

Why consoles don't have a sleep function just confuses me. Seems an obvious thing to have when so many games have save points 20 minutes apart and you may want to stop playing after 15 minutes and not lose all progress.

They do have a sleep function, and have done for a while now.

I really have to remember when wanking to porn viewed via the Xbox to clean off any spunk I get on the controller. I've had to throw one away recently due to the buttons not working.

    She's old school! :)

Back in the NES and SNES days a lot of games didn't have save functions, so for some of the longer games you had to just pause it and pick it up later.

I did this loads when I had to go to school/college. :/

Just never ever try to calculate how much money it costs to keep a PS3 running, especially with a game loaded. On the other hand you have a nice heater on during the winter time.

@Folant Yeah, doesn't the PS3 one default to turning off after 2 hours of inactivity or something?

Turning off doesn't save the game state though. i was thinking more like the Vita where turning off will still keep your place in the game.

    Ah yeah. My mistake.
But if the game autosaves every 20, likely hood is it has a "save anywhere" feature?

A save state would be pretty awesome though.

What game autosaves every 20 minutes?

Also, the consoles of old weren't so power hungry and loud, so it made more sense to just leave them on. Although my new super slim takes just shy of 70 watts of power, so it's not all bad. The fan is still audible, mind.

I know a guy who used to leave his 60Gb fatty running when he was out to heat his room up. He was inconsolable when it bricked!
