Really? That's annoying. I was hoping this would be sci-fi rather than a people study

As far as scene-setting openers go, that was kinda dull.

So any theories on the plot yet?

    My batshit theories:
Just watched it and my current theory is that there is a crash landed alien ship with a malfunctioning star trek esque energy shield. Perhaps it's cloaked. Perhaps there was a survivor (or more) that has replaced or is controlling Junior (and perhaps others), I think it's something to do with her genetics or maybe the alien isn't very mature and easily becomes jealous.

The show implies that the Alien(s) seem to kill off people that might figure out the whats going on too. That's what led me to my theory, the kid dies when mentions the possibility of a power source. And maybe there's something more to the Sheriff's story

Anyway, speculation aside. I already have a love/hate relationship with this show. I like it because it I love a good mystery but hate it because the characters are unoriginal, all the tropes are here and the interracial gay couple with the bitchy daughter was just... *sigh*

Haven't read the book but so far it looks typical like the typical Stephen King character archetypes. I'm going for the shield being set up by some apocalypse nuts a protection against something that will wipe out the rest of the world.

Not sure it will be alien spider clowns, King has kind of done them before. Wouldn't surprise me if the turns out to be something to do with towers and turtles at some point. Though I must have missed which one of the lead characters was an alcoholic author.

    Falling stars = nukes?

    Too obvious?

It was ok I guess and I'll keep watching, the script was nowt special, though the principles did the best they could with it.

Psycho boy is a bit crap.

Nice. I will continue watching this. Perfect summer show to watch with the missus.

If you can read this you really need to fiddle with your forum settings.

That sounds a lot more plausible

Not too pumped after the pilot, generic characters in a generically absurd situation. Still, things can always branch into something interesting despite the tired cliche.

Just watched ep 2. Still absolutely generic, awful dialogue and bad acting. The hook of a finding out more about the dome is just enough to keep me watching however.

Not much happened in this episode. But for some reason I quite enjoy it.

For those who have read Under the Dome, how is the TV show slightly different after news of the screenwriters doing away with some of the themes running through (the book)?

I am still somewhat curiously interested in watching this!

There are a lot of differences so far between the book and the show...

Episode 2 was terrible. At one point it was almost laugh out loud terrible, so I'll give one more episode a go.

It'll have to be seriously better (like they realised how bad it started and fired all the writers and directors and started over for episode 3); or a little bit worse to the point it becomes a comedy.

Going over the stories there's not a lot of meat.

Girl trapped in basement (I don't care too much about this)
Bad guy befriending newswoman (makes for some farcical moments but otherwise not much they can do here)
Mayor up to something wicked, probably drugs (ZZZZzzzzZZZZzzzzzZZZZZzzzzz)
What is the DOME!_? (for 13 episodes? Really?)

Still, I really liked the first episode in a "What would it be like if it happened to me" kind of way. But the second episode was just a rehash of the first. They even managed to end with the same thing.

As for firing writers etc I believe most of the season (if not all of it) is already shot. Not much they can do about it now.

If you can read this you really need to fiddle with your forum settings.

Nail on the head I think. It could have been a great episode of The Twilight Zone or Outer Limits.

That's the problem with these "holy shit a huge catastrophic event has happened" shows, the event can only really happen once. They tend to run out of steam rather quickly after that and end up threading water to fill episodes or having characters make incredibly poor decisions to create storylines.

The Walking Dead is a prime example of this. There's maybe two episodes in each of its seasons that interesting major stuff happens in and the rest is just fluff and poorly written characters doing dumb shit.

Some of the acting for a fairly big budget US show is diabolical. Mainly the two teenage lads, especially the oriental chap, fuck they're bad!
Second episode wasn't as good as the first, (Although clumsy priest guy, accidentally setting fire to absolutely everything around him, was unintentionally great) but there's enough mystery to keep me tuning in for now.

I had a feeling the fire was caused by the spirit of the dead sheriff which made me think when people die, their souls can't escape the dome so live on in some way.

Would be more interesting than the last episode anyway.

I guess you missed the bit where he clumsily kicked the bin into the curtain :p

That fire was hilariously bad. The room went up like he'd been liberally dousing the entire place in petrol.

The first episode was okay. This one was just detestably bad.

The house was obviously made of balsa wood and the sheriff was really clumsy when filling his Zippo. When Father Inept pushed the trash can towards the window I thought he'd actually meant to do it it was so terribly done.

The priest could easily have used the "I need his suit" excuse to get the keys without lifting them in the first place too.

I rather enjoyed the first episode but if the quality is like this throughout? Fucking hell...
