Lots of speculation that this was set up.

Don't follow Bulgarian politics, so have no idea. But It is Eastern Europe, so it wouldn't surprise me.

Belgian news site mentioned an attempt with a gun misfiring. The thumbnail for the video is the guy holding up his gun at point blank range and the politician looking at him slightly perplexed and bemused. Haven't clicked it though, I think it'll be disappointing compared to what I imagine it'd be like in my head.

Didn't look like much of an assassination attempt to me. Given that he could have just shot the guy. Looked more like a scare attempt.

If it was a set up, the shooter must be quite pissed off that security let him get a right shoeing rather than bundling him off backstage.

Don't get me wrong. If that were me I'd have been a whimpering, curled up ball in seconds. It just seems like he has all the time in the world to pop him.

The assassin seems quite surprised that the gun doesn't gun go off.

The least he could have done was give him a bit of a pistol whipping. After the gun fails he proceeds to jump around like a pansy before getting bundled. You'd think the politician was the one with the gun.

He was probably jumping around, thinking "oh fuck, about 20 large, trained men are rushing this way"

The world is going mad. Me? I'm doing fine.

He had two knives on him. Gun doesn't work, stab him.

If that was the point he only started thinking about the security detail, he was probably also thinking "Shit, I really didn't think this through did I".

    Not exactly the brightest hitman.

Oh fuck, just watched that bit and promptly giggled like a school girl. Best thing I've seen this year so far.

I like to think he slept through the assassination attempt bit and just woke up for the shoeing and thought why the hell not.

It would take seconds to get a knife out of his belt. Plus security took ages to get there so he had the time.

If you were planning to shoot someone and also packed two knives you should have been ready to use them. He was just a bit rubbish and panicked I guess.

If the gun did fire he clearly didn't have an escape plan so was willing to go down for it, assuming he survived the mob beating.
  • Deleted user 20 January 2013 13:36:15
The knives must have been packed to ensure the job was done.

Has it really come to this? I mean, we* argue about some stupid things on this forum and make a lot of ill-informed judgements about things we* don't really understand... but, come on! - How best to assassinate someone? REALLY?

    *Not me - you lot.

Clearly the best way would have been to plant small explosives on the chandalier above him, then detonate them at the right time and let gravity do the rest.

That would be good, hard to pull off though.

I'm not actually arguing with anyone, I said he had two knives and should have used them. People then moaned about it like I had insulted their mother, that isn't an argument.

    No, YOUR MOTHER.

I don't literally mean argument. But it's preposterous that anyone on here might position themselves as knowing what the guy should have done. For a number of different reasons.

It was hardly a terrible argument! No one even said anything nasty at all. Don't be so precious, poppet.
