    WARNING: violent video

The leader of Bulgaria's opposition Movement for Rights and Freedoms, Ahmet Dogan, escaped an apparent assassination attempt Saturday while addressing a party congress in Sofia, local media reported.

The attacker pointed a gun at Dogan, but was prevented from firing, according to the reports. While security wrestled with the attacker, Dogan was tackled to the ground by his bodyguards.

The party, which mainly represents the Turkish minority in Bulgaria, had called the convention to elect a new leadership. Dogan, 58, has led the party since founding it in 1990.

After taking part in the governing coalition, the party switched to the opposition following the 2009 elections, which were won by the conservative Gerb party of Prime Minister Boyko Borisov.
Dogan is thanking his lucky stars tonight I'm sure. Who needs police when there's a room full of angry politicians to give the would-be killer a fucking good shoeing?

I love the old boy at the end.
  • Deleted user 19 January 2013 16:45:43
It's just the way it's worded like something was done to prevent him rather than laying at the feet of his complete inability to fire a gun.

That really awkward moment when both attacker and victim realised that the gun didn't work  Dogan is one lucky man.

Security did an excellent job of stopping people hitting him.

The old boy putting the shoe in at the end was quite classy.

Love this youtube comment: "In Bulgaria, Presidents kill assassins."

If there's a click then that suggests the hammer dropped which means the safety was off. Therefore either he hadn't chambered a round (schoolboy error) or the round was a dud ( or the gun was broken in some way). It looks to be a very small pistol so might be a .22 in which case a misfire due to the ammo would not be unheard of. Human error is more likely tbh.

I love how there are guys holding other guys back so that they themselves can give the dude a more thorough shoeing.

I'm greatly looking forward to the comedy gifs of this. I would like one where jimmy "superfly" snuka elbows drops in to the scene off the top turnbuckle.

Not that I know shit all about guns, but I'd say it was a dud round. Probably wet from the 8 miles of sewers he swam through to get there.

If it was a .22lr which it could well be, then it might be the ammo. If it was a non-rimfire cartridge then it's exceptionally unlikely.

Actually it wasn't a proper gun at all, it was a gas-gun.

No excuse, there should have been several security on scene and had the man removed immediately.

Bulgarian Police say the attacker has a history of robberies and other violent crimes.

As I haven't seen it on our news and the YouTube video has minimal hits it maybe staged.

Wasn't when I checked, unless it was only showing if you searched under euro news. Would have thought it would have come up on the main news section.

Like how everyone just starts wailing on him after a while. There's even a guy clubbing him with a briefcase at one point.
