Is it just me or is Youtube on a go slow?

For the past few days most videos I've tried to watch on youtube have taken about 3 times the video length to fully buffer, this happens on random videos and all resolutions.

Everything else I download is still running fine so it's not my connection, anyone else having this?

Its fine here. Maybe your provider is throttling the connection.

It's been a bit slow for me too, often needing to be paused to let it catch up with its buffering, and quite often glitching out where it'll download much of a video, but then when you go back to the start to watch it in one go, it'll decide it hasn't downloaded anything and start again.

On the other hand, I've made a number of changes to my computer setup recently (off the top of my head, I've upgraded to Flash 11, I've moved the computer from one room to another, and it turned out my wiring between my computer and its wifi dongle was intermittent), but yeah, youtube seems to be one of the most unreliable connections at the moment.

Why don't you guys just use the priority parameter in the querystring?

Press the up arrow while a video is buffering and start a game of snake. Passes the time.

Yeah, I do that on 3G when the thing just take an age to start. This usually starts though, then buffering slows down. Still, I should still be able to start a game then, just never think of it.

So, I'm on Virgin's 100MB/sec service. Speedtest tells me that, right now, I have 89MB/s down and 5MB/s up. So why in the heck can I not load any YouTube video longer than 5 minutes?

Depends on teh video. There isn't a "youtube.com" so to speak. They have a plethora of servers in different locations. You may get a 1080p video to load in seconds, then watch "part 2" and it seemingly not load at all.

It depends on traffic as well, don't forget the kids are off school, they'll all be watching Gangnam Style.

Is it supposed to be like this?

It's painful, it really is. I mean, you'd think through the day when the schools are back would be fine, but lately, no matter the time or day, it just... refuses to load videos. Trying to watch part 2 of the Tropes videos and they freeze every minute for 10 minutes...

Don't know if it will work but try a different browser, Opera or Firefox.

Yeah I'm having problems. The buffer stops and the video freezes. Then will start again then freeze again. Been happening about a week for me, making youtube pretty much unwatchable.

Just to let you know it's fine my end.

[edit] That's at 1080p as well, loads really fast.

Aren't they updating every channel to the new layout sometime soon/ now? It's probably to do with that.

Though since they've added the feature that changes the quality mid-video I've found youtube to become a bit hit and miss.

Yeah I had that today and did the update, maybe if you do the update it changes things, if you're not a subscriber I suppose you won't get the message, I think it changes for all this weekend.
