I think the 'don't be a thundercunt' advice is for the best.

Where we lose threads, we can always make new ones to cover the loss.

It's not as simple as flicking a switch and turning this functionality back on or off, unfortunately.
Could you or Craigy maybe give us a brief description of how the data is stored? I can't think how I would structure a database or whatever, where you would have no choice but to completely delete content when you just wanted to delete/disable a user.
Well I can't speak for Craigy as I didn't build this forum.

But clearly there's got to be a flag against each user that indicates whether they're banned or not. Posts from banned users are then hidden. I assume, for legal reasons, that they're still saved in the DB in case anything untoward ever happened. But then you've got the further complications of groups, ignore lists, spammers and gold farmers and as MrTom rightly said, being able to still view all the bullshit posts and threads would make the forum a complete mess.

There is a solution it's just not as straight forward as you might initially think, that's all.

If I was the guy who started the dark souls thread I'd hold everybody to ransom.

Pound each or I'll spam gay porn.

I think the obvious solution is to never post in a thread that ecosse or fruit salad start.

My man gives real loving that's why I call him Killer
    He's not a wham-bam-thank-you-ma'am, he's a thriller

We can, but the reason I quite liked the idea of looking at the Xenoblade thread was that I'm sure there would have been lots of discussion about what skills to take / tips on bosses / stuff to do that I may miss and so on. Starting a new thread now (or using the small new thread) won't garner any discussion as anyone who is likely to post such info would have finished the game ages ago.

And I do think the advice about being a thundercunt misses the point rather, the issue is that it is the people who are behaving that can't see such info, no one really cares that the banned person can't contribute.
